May not have an official name. You’d have to ask the locals what they call it.

I think it’s called ‘New Year Island’, and that it appears on nautical chart AUS 714 Panel 1.

Unfortunately, the Hydrographic Office website (www.hydro.gov.au) seems to have taken the weekend off, so it’s no help at all.

Fair point, Carmen, but while “Sandy Island” was never more than a smudge, the satellite imagery of this island is quite clear: looks like there is vegetation.
