Rich ‘ladies who lunch’, living in some of the most affluent areas in Britain, are more than twice as likely as the national average to have an alcohol problem.
Women who live in exclusive areas such as Esher in Surrey, Merchiston in Edinburgh, and Knightsbridge in London, where many residents often earn six-figure sums, are more also more likely to suffer from mental illness or depression than those living in more modest areas, research has found.
Almost two-thirds of the women in these places drink more than the recommended limit of three units of alcohol a day, more than any other social type, an analysis of health and habits broken down by postcode area revealed.
