Miss Maremma needs her nails trimmed. I’m looking on eBay for some clippers (which are really cheap). Has anyone here had experience with the electric filing clippers? I find the manual ones hard to use as her claws are quite thick.

This is an example of an electric one

Having read some reviews, it seems the electric one isn’t powerful enough for her claws anyway :( I don’t like my chances of getting her near a grindstone either…

all i know is that if you cut the soft bit just once.. they’ll never again let you near them…

Amen to that, sista! I cut it across, not vertically. Was shown that way by a vet once. Reduces the chance of clipping the vein, which is great for Jas’ claws because they’re black and you can’t see the vein.

A doggy friend told me to file them down :/ Daisy chews hers sometimes and spits them out on the kitchen floor – thanks a lot, Daisy Mae!

“Ooo…WTF is that thing!?!”

We’ve not had to clip the dogs’ nails, but I have done it with The Orbital Pug. He’s not keen on it and neither am I, as he has black nails too. We found walking him around the Queen Vic Market wore them down nicely and I didn’t have to fight him. Mostly ours just have long walks on gravel roads and we don’t have to bother about the nails.

Wear and tear helps reduce the need.

I hated clipping my dogs nails and he did too.
