The developers of a super computer that can think for itself, process data in seconds and even learn from its mistakes say it will revolutionise business on a global scale

At first I was sceptical but as I thought about it I realised that human stockbrokers were more susceptible to panic than a computer.

Of course the input parameters of the program would vary according to whom employed them.

I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

It’s hype of course, computers have been able to “think for themselves” and “learn from their mistakes” to some extent for decades. As for processing data in seconds, even the very first computers did that. This computer may (or may not) be a significant advance on anything previously available, but it certainly won’t “ revolutionise business on a global scale”. It will just contribute to the incremental advance.

Too slow by a factor of more than a trillion. Computer stockbroking programs now bid for stocks on timescales shorter than a nanosecond. Some people say they can bid for stocks faster than a picosecond.
