Thanks. It must be the way I am reviewing it then. There are 3 arrow keys that I can press. The one below the timeline gives me sound but doesn’t play the video. The one at the top of the page plays the video in the preview pane, but it just plays the short clip. the other one below the preview window does nothing.

I don’t use icons/mouse for shuttle control. ‘Space’ is for play, ‘space’ again is for stop and go back to where you started from or ‘enter’ is for stop and leave the cursor where you are now. Keys ‘J’ ‘K’ and ‘L’ are scrubbers for speeding up and slowing down the playback rate, or even reversing it.

Ok, that seems to work, but how do I get the video to play in the preview pane?

Any playback should appear in the preview pane assuming that it will appear in the final rendered product. there are a few thing that you can do that would make the output to render or preview appear black. Having a second video timeline above (I think highest Vx timeline takes precedent) the main Vx timeline, but the top one is black.

Muting a Vx channel will cause black a preview if it is the only Vx channel on the timeline.

Soloing a Vx channel will cause black a preview if it does not contain content.

It rendered ok, but the preview refuses to work. It is a MOV file from another camera. Perhaps that is the problem?

That is strange. The preview should always be indicative of the final render. Some Vx formats cause preview to be jumpy and slow, but I have never seen it not work at all. Have you tried different size and quality setting in the preview window?

One of Australia’s most senior spy chiefs says the threat that local intelligence might have a rogue insider like Edward Snowden is real and one that security agencies are increasingly concerned about.

phew that’s a relief , there was me thinking that it was organised , funded and trained intelligence organisations were the real problem.

I don’t know what the window I had was, but it wasn’t the preview window. I have just found that and popped it into place. I think the other one was a clipping window.

I am not near a computer that has Vegas at the moment, but I can only think of the trimmer window.

Is preview working properly now?

I have control of the trimmer and the previewer. Now I want to duplicate the sound track from the first clip and extend it to the second clip that doesn’t have any sound. I thought that I could just drag the end of the sound track out to the right, but it grabs the video as well and merges it. How do I stretch the sound into the next clip?

The audio and video of an event are grouped together by default. To seperate them click on either Vx or Sx to select, then press ‘U’ to Ungroup. If you want to regroup them (or any other events) click on one to select, then CTRL+click the other events you want to group to selct them all, and then press ‘G’ to Group them together.

Thanks. I am not at that computer just now but will try it tomorrow. Seems very Windows logic-like.
