I like the Tour de France. There’s some great scenery and camerawork.

It’s a bit spoiled by their apparent obsession with a bunch of oddly-dressed drug addicts on bikes.

So, Laurie Brereton’s memorial to himself will be no more.

Well, B.T. proved me wrong.

On the other hand, Aussie Sammy proved me right – another drubbing.

Poor buggers. One mistake, and…

Black powder is such touchy stuff. It’s a ‘low explosive’, but you have to be so very careful with it. Article says they ‘were disposing of old gunpowder’. Modern powder can have an indefinite shelf life, so it’s always dangerous.

Without seeking to include or not include myself in the group ‘bikies’, I’m on Aspirin and Statins. Hope that helps.

I was watching an excellent doco on the history of le Tour last night and it struck me that the period of prohibition has been quite short – Perhaps only the last 30 years – Prior to that the competitors were taking enough amphetamines to fill a Teddy Bear.

You can bet your arse the compeditors this year will be using every possible performance-enhancing substance, training method, medical procedure, and technological measure they can get away with.

I think Cadel Evans, our Cadel, is the only one who has won le tour without the assistance of drugs.
It says something about Australians, big bronzed Aussies don’t need supplements apart from Vegemite which puts a rose in every cheek.

After the second Corsica stage tonight, how do the team buses get to the mainland in under 12 hours? I wonder if there are ferries put on for the event? How many teams are there in an average TDF?

La Vuelta a España 2013 began last night.

SBS are running half-hour ‘Highlight’ packages this week, then 8 of the best stages next week.

Awesome for people who love watching little blokes ride bikes up hills.

:-)
