hello Cb88,
this is a request from me if you dont mind as most of us are always changing computers is it possbil to have it set up when we log in on any pc that the ones we have read are read and the ones we havent read arent read and then when we go back to a different computer it stays how it was when we where on the other Pc.
i would like anyone elses repsonse on this.

ok then. some users use different pcs i think.

that would be helpful VG, as I sometimes look in here when I am at work and it can take me a while to work out where I last was.

yeah it is happening to me alot now some one is one my normal pc means i have to work out where i am up to.

lets hope Cb88 or someone who can edit it looks at the topic.

I think they keep an eye on what is going on.

it is possible because php forums like GE have it. But whether they can make it work for this type of forum could be another thing altogether.

I’m busy with exams for the next couple of weeks, but I should be able implement it after that.

The exam period goes for all of June. My first exam was on the 10th and the last one is on the 24th.

I just posted this in the TT forum, but I see cb88’s been here already.  I’ll post anyway, as there is another function I wouldn’t mind seeing anyway.  :o)

The colour of the links is linked directly to your browser history, so the links will only be coloured for the specific browser you’re using on the specific machine you’re on — it’s the visited link colour, like on a normal web page when you’ve been to a linked page.

Maybe an easier solution than keeping a database of where each user has been as part of the forum software would be to include post id numbers in the same way that the ABC forums do. I think the old Holiday forum worked that way. Then at least you could remember what post you got up to reading when you go to a different machine.

Write it down on a bit of paper in your wallet/purse/somthing you always have with you.

Also, if you point at a post link in the left frame, your browser status bar should display the url, the last part of which is the post number.

Displaying the post id is a very easy modification (already done).

I still think storing the viewed posts in the database is a good feature, and I’ll implement it when I’ve got some free time.

didnt look t the post id is what i said.

Also Cb88 how do we change the text size becuase alot of the users have been doing this with out knowing how they did it in one post.

I think it is just a bit of a bug with the quote function. doesn’t happen very often.

Depends how much free time I spend on it. It should be done in a week.

it’s probably not feasible to store all visited posts for all the users. this would slow the forum down, and probably grind to a halt when it has to process thousands of visited posts for each currently logged in user for each screen refresh. maybe it could be achieved server side, by storing a limited number (say 100) of last visited links. but even 100 may prove too big a hit on forum performance. i’ve never heard of a website implementing something like this.

don’t be discouraged VG. It’s not most people and there will always be people who have different ideas on things. That’s part of life and if we all thought the same then we might miss out of the good ideas that other people have. And cb88 said he could do it, and it’s up to him really.
