We have a small amount of this weed in our lawn out the back.

But Debbie has heaps of it in her yard in Burra. So i have taken these photos, hoping for an ID on it. Deb has tried to pull it up, but its so hard to remove. Pretty sure its a bulb weed of some kind. Said to Deb & the elf …….“wonder if its a form of onion weed?”

Hoping someone can help Deb out on how to remove this weed from her garden/lawn/rose beds.

Dunno BG….. it didn’t bring up much when pulled and the leaf just broke off. Deb hasn’t dug down far enough to see the bulb.

the nut won’t come out with pulling, you have to dig it up.

with great difficulty. there is a poison called ‘Nut Buster’. Manually digging up has limited success as it easy to leave little bulblets behind. Or persistently smothering with a thick mulch over several layers of newspaper, and if it pokes through then recovering again until it eventually starves through lack of sunlight.

NUT GRASS
This is one of the weeds that makes people freak out when they find it growing in their lawns or garden beds.
WHAT A PROBLEM……..WHAT SHOULD YOU DO??? ……… SHIFT !!!.
I had the same problem some years ago in the front lawn of a new house I’d just bought. Here is what you can do.
All you will need is a cotton bud or a very small paint brush.
On one leaf of each plant paint GLYPHOSATE 450g/L WEED KILLER straight from the container.
This poison will kill the whole plant including the roots which may have small bulblets attached to the main plant..
You will have to repeat some areas if any nut grass come up later in the season or the following year.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT SPILL OR PAINT ANY ON THE LAWN GRASS.
Munns Glyphosate 450 WEED KILLER non-residual spray.
Make sure you follow the directions carefully for all herbicides and chemicals.

I agree. That’s why I asked you to smell it Lucky. If it’s onion weed you should be able to smell onion in the leaves.
