I d/l this by accident yesterday.
I’ve googled and googled but nothing is helping.
I d/l adwcleaner which didn’t find it.
I went through the registry and deleted all instances. On boot up it’s back.
Help please!
This is driving me nuts.
thanks

It’s a bugger, hey. You have to go into your browser tools and disable it wherever you see it. Then clean your registry again. Took me a while to completely remove it.
it’s a tricky one purps, but there are heaps of sites that describe the process depending on the browser you use… my only advice is that when you are trying to uninstall it, make sure you are not connected to the internet…
What is news.net?

it’s a adware infection that masquerades as a ‘toolbar’
Thanks.
It was a while ago, but I remember doing an uninstall which gives you an opportunity to tell them in many rude words just what you think of them.
I think I went:
Uninstall (or remove application),
Disabled it everywhere I could find it in browsers,
Ran CCleaner
Ran Malwarebytes.
Eventually, it stopped appearing,
What if you uninstall and reinstall the browser?
Would you believe I forget how to not be on the internet?

To be or not to be – that is the question.
The simplest way is unplug the modem :)

Switch the modem off.

no I doubt that would work… you need to disconnect from the internet, uninstall the toolbar and the associated bits and pieces, then remove the addons in the browser then I’d suggest running malwarebytes or superantisypware or both…
it’s probably not a highly technical removal but these sorts of things can be persistent…

just pull out the network cable or disconnect the wireless connection (or both)
jolly good, thanks :)

But you still have to disable all references to it as a toolbar in your browser(s).
I’d check with the greek bloke over at http://fffsforums.com/
I can’t d/l mbam. this bloody thing keeps hijacking the browser :(
how do I do that Geoff. in addons or something?

what browser are you using?
Eeek, I got hijacked by this bloody thing last week.
Had to scrub it out of Firefox and Chrome and then do an uninstall under windows. Had to repeat the dose to kill it dead.
Are all you guys surfing unprotected or something?
What have you been downloading, hmm?

What happens is, you might be installing something legitimate (but free) and it inserts itself in the questions asked and if you’re not paying attention, you click OK and there it is.

I was downloading the latest IrfanView.

Manage Add Ons – Toolbars and Extensions in Exploder,
weird. it doesn’t appear on every window. this one, facebook, android forums…wonder why?
Anyway, I’m about to go offline and try this stuff.
thanks all
It appears to be gone.
Thanks everyone.
It was really pissing me off
this is what I did
1. download mbam and ccleaner
2. make sure they’re both up to date
3. check within your browser for instances of news.net
4. get offline
5. delete any instances in your browser
6. run mbam and ccleaner
7. go through the registry and delete any instances of news.net
BE CAREFUL don’t delete EVERYTHING that has news in the name. some of them are legit.
8. reboot. hopefully its gone
