Subject: PPTX file

I have powerpoint installed but can’t find it when I choose “open with’ in the box.
But if I go through windows explorer PP is definitely there.
I d/l PPTX viewer but it’s not displaying well. There is no play option that I can see, and some words and titles appear to have moved from their page and are stuck over the middle of other pages.
I don’t know what to do and would appreciate help.
thanks

Do you have Powerpoint/Office 2007 or later? The files ending in x were introduced in the 2007 version.

Open Office should suffice. Plus there’s a powerpoint maker/viewer in it too. Free download, no registration.

Buy the Student version from Harvey Norman or such Purps, it’s a lot cheaper.

From http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/infopath-help/activate-or-register-programs-in-the-microsoft-office-system-HA001118776.aspx

To continue to use all the features of your product, you need to activate your software. Microsoft Product Activation is an anti-piracy technology designed to verify that software products have been legitimately licensed. It is quick, simple, unobtrusive, and helps protect customer privacy. Product Activation works by verifying that a software program’s product key, which you must use in order to install the product, has not been used on more personal computers than intended by the software’s license.

What happens if I don’t activate?

Before you activate, you can run the software up to 50 times. After that, the software will go into Reduced Functionality mode. You will not be able to save modifications to documents or create a new document, and additional functionality might be reduced. Full functionality returns when you activate the software.

No existing files or documents will be harmed during Reduced Functionality mode.

Do you have experience with that?

I yesterday tried to download the latest OpenOffice several times (I had been having trouble re-sizing images, and it wanted a different Java Runtime Environment, but I have the latest…). Somehow, the download killed the download and the browser several times, so I gave up…

Sort of. It’s part of this Linux distro (Mepis), but I rarely use it and I haven’t explored it thoroughly. It’s handy when I want to play with Word documents, though.

It’s annoying that Java is a problem with OpenOffice; I guess Oracle are a bit slack on that score since they handed OO over to Apache.
