Subject: Gaur

The gaur (Bos gaurus) is a species of wild cattle living in southern Asia, from India to southern China and down to Malaysia. There are perhaps 30000-40000 living gaurs, but it is considered “vulnerable” due to its habitat being destroyed. It is a protected animal in all countries in which it is found.

The gaur is the world’s largest living bovine. Males can be more than 3 metres long and stand up tp 2.2 metres high at the shoulder. That’s huge.

I have been trying to find some images online of a large gaur bull next to a person to illustrate scale, but haven’t found any.

Not surprising, really, I wouldn’t be game to stand near one either.

Some of them are larger than a hill whose height is less than 2.2 m.

Nom indeed. Imagine one of those roasting on a spit. It’s basically a tuskless mammoth.

Note: you should just imagine this. Actually roasting one on a spit would be illegal.

Early.

Probably something like a gnu, yak or zebu would suffice for late supper, don’t want nightmares.

In the first listed gaur video, I don’t know why people don’t just put fences around their gardens so the cattle don’t come in and eat everything.

Have you ever tried to build a fence to keep a bull out of your garden?

And what’s the point in having enormous moo-cows if you can’t at least whinge about them?

Often had bulls grazing in the paddocks around the Mole Creek place. Electric + ordinary barbed wire farm fencing kept them out.

I have seen a bull jump over a regular farm fence from a standing start.

Actually the bulls may have only been allowed in the paddock bordering one heavier duty fence. But the other paddocks were quite often filled with curious (and noisy) cows.
