Subject: Option of 2 PCs

Can someone please suggest something for me? I have the option of having one of 2 PCs.

First is an Intel Dual Core with 2×2Gb 1333MHz ram.

Other is Intel Quad Core 2 with 2×2Gb 667MHz ram.

Which would be better for video editing?

Ok thanks Sibeen.

Didn’t know the difference in Ram when I pulled them apart, both are now in pieces on my lounge room floor.

Will go with the other :)

JTQ…jaysus, don’t take my word for it!!!!

You posted the OP twice, so I answered in each one, the answer was different in both.

This way I could later claim that I was correct.

DO NOT LISTEN TO ME, I HAVE NO IDEA!!!!

Sibeen’s 3rd statement is correct :)

I think the quad core might make more difference than the memory.

But I don’t know either.

Can’t you get the quad core with the faster RAM?

I’ll be ordering this machine next month, with 6 GB 1600 MHz ram

And this new monitor next week

And this music software next month

….and a good quality audio interface (i.e. external soundcard) which I haven’t yet chosen.

For my money the decision would be made upon whether the clock speed of the RAM was going to be the limiting factor in system performance – Which I seriously doubt.

I would go for the Quad core and run it under Windows 7 64 bit from a Solid State Drive. You can always add more RAM later.

Unless you’re a professional gamer, then it’s been about 15 years since I noticed a difference in RAM speeds ;-) Amounts yes, but not speeds.

e.g. CPU cache memory is far more important than RAM speed.

Also your your disk storage is the most noticeable speed you will ever notice – putting a Samsung or Intel (these brands are more energy efficient than OCZ and Crucial) SSD into a 4 year old computer will outperform most new computers than don’t have SSDs.

Is gaming a real profession?
