Australians love digital technology and all that it has to offer – but every time you use it, you leave a footprint. Who’s watching and what are they doing with your information? Geoff Thompson reports.

It’s not the only way we’re affected, but the most visible way is targeted advertising. I seem to be one of the weird ones where advertising doesn’t affect me. I don’t (knowingly) click on ads and I have settings via socialfixer.com so I don’t see ads on Facebook.

I’m also a weird one. Who knew, eh?
The ads on fb don’t worry me all that much unless it’s spam in my newsfeed from another friend’s likes/posts. Then I deal with it – usually telling them that it’s sexually explicit content. I like to confuse.

FB on iPhone has no ads, and I so rarely use it on the lappy that they don’t bother me.

If you’re viewing FB on a PC, just use Socialfixer.
Zero adverts any more and you can configure a bunch of other stuff to make it how you want.

Don’t you think you should be able to investigate whether the holocaust occurred, or go to 911 sites (whether pro or con), without any fear of your name popping up red flags in some intelligence agency? You might be surprised how many of you have red flags next to your names just because of the sites you visit whether you agree with the content or not.

However the biggest reason it matters for most people is not that intelligence agencies, foreign and domestic, have access to every digital aspect of their lives, obviously most people won’t come under the microscope, but their elected representatives, police chiefs, judges etc are all open to being completely controlled through this information should it be damning enough.

It could even get to the point where, should intelligence agencies and shadow governments want to completely control society, people are deliberately promoted who are open to being controlled, like paedophiles or fraudsters (it wouldn’t surprise me if this weren’t already happening)
