Anyone know anything about hardlocked phones? My sister was given a phone by her friend. My sister passed it on to me but didn’t tell me it was locked to a network. When I asked for the unlock codes they gave me numbers they didn’t know what meant and subsequently the phone is hardlocked.

It’s meant to be a backup phone for me and so I don’t want to spend any money via dodgy sites claiming they can unlock phones for $$$$. I just can’t stand throwing out a perfectly working piece of technology.

It’s a Sony Xperia X10 Pro Mini (U20a).

Anyone know if it is possible to ‘flash’ the phone or similar to restore it?

Who is it locked to? If it is outside it’s contract period, then they should unlock it for you.

You misunderstand. It was locked to 3 (now Vodaphone) but the incorrect unlock code was entered several times. This has ‘hard locked’ the phone. I got the unlock code from 3 but it no longer responds to that since the phone is now ‘hard locked’.

As I said, it’s a backup (actually, backup #2; I have an old samsung). I can buy a newer, better one for $50… but why should a prefectly good phone be thrown away to be deconstructed or become landfill?

Back in the day… People made things to last.

They went broke.

Hope that helps.

I continue to use things. I’ve two perfectly working laptops, one for projects and one for general use. Two PCs, the older of which I turned into a media centre. A number of printers and scanners which all still work… and I can have dedicated printer / scanner for each computer (since I don’t have a wireless network available to link them).

Old stereo system, TV and STB sit out on my patio; most people would throw them out but I have an AV system out there that works perfectly well… and if it gets knicked I’m out of pocket by all of about $10.

hell, I even keep all my old software and manuals. If anyone ever needs Windows 95, come see me. DOS from about the early 90s… I’m your man.

Look we all know that they hold back the next version till the current has sold out,

Thing is, if you bought a house without a roof on the promise that it would be in next years upgrade, you would be thought a fool.
