I’m barracking for Freo even though I’m not going to bother watching the match :)
I wouldn’t be able to make any sense of it.
Whatever the outcome, I think it is Beer that will be the winner…

Hawthorn is written in purple and white on that label.
I’m confused.

Not at all – I just said I couldn’t get into them.

You seem to be making a prediction there….hmmm
So the last time these two teams played each other in a final Freo won. Woo Hoo.
(we shall ignore the results of the four home and away games played since that match)
Go Hawks
Rule1: Don’t kick across the ground in defence!
You would think they would have the team work out what to do then the anthem is played, it is not like it is a surprise feature, either teach the team the words and have them all at least mouth along, or have the team stay silent. Some silent, and some semi mumbling out of sync looks a bit unconvincing.
Hawthorn’s Gunston kicks the first goal
Much to Neddles’ chagrin as half her office sweep goes down the drain (now it’s a matter of seeing who wins the Norm Smith Medal)
So how’s the footy unfolding?

Seems the Tasmanian-subsidised team is leading.
Dockers pushing but due to poor kicking unable to make inroads.. Hawks lead 34-11.
Hawthorn 35
Freemantle 12

Wot – you get points for almost getting a goal?
Wow – I’ve never seen a team actually throw a Grand Final before. The Dockers must have put down a shit-load of money on Hawthorn.

Yes CS, it’s a sophisticated game..
rolls eyes
Freo aren’t allowing for the wind, and are kicking from too far out. As a result, the ball floats in the air and is carried away from goal by the wind.
They couldn’t kick between the posts from inside the square! And I’m barracking for them….

They should have invested in a pre-match BoM briefing.

How much time to go?
56 – 46 to the Hawks..
Roy and HG have just suggested that Freo have only just come alive in the 3rd quarter due to the time difference.
Whatever the result I’m going to head down to Glenferrie Rd to get into the atmosphere.

Hi team North Qld.
It was hailing this morning. The sun is just coming out. I hope it stays clear for the celebrations. From my place I can see directly to the G. It’s quite an imposing site.

Love the G.. I can feel this crowd just watching it :)
So it looks like Hawthorn’s won.
Not quite sure how the Tasmanian government can invest millions of $ of taxpayer’s money in a Victorian football team when the whole island is itself heavily subsidised by mainland taxpayers, but that’s the mysteries of economics for you.
Fremantle thoroughly deserved to lose that match.

G’day mate. Long time. I must admit you warned me about photography is an expensive hobby. I’m up to 4 lenses already!
When are you back in Cairns.
The Hawks have won. Lyons has coached another team to a grand final choke. You need to lose a few before you win one, apparently.

It was a true game of cliches. They had the opportunities. But the hawks took it.
And that Ballantyne should be sent down to the reserves. He was shocking; it would of almost have been better to give the ball to a Hawthorn player.
If only they had listened to my advice…

Even though I am an Eagles supporter, my commiserations to you P_P, I would have liked the Dockers to have got up and grabbed the win.
meh – Bad kicking is bad football. Fumbling and falling over is bad football. We did too many bad things while the Hawks did good things. Overawed by the occasion and make too many errors.

I remember when the ‘G used to hold 110,000 people, but all the new seating etc chopped that down. 100,007 isn’t a bad crowd for a Granny, though.
Gee, I got rather shamefully drunk this afternoon.
I’ve had a nap for a couple hours. Still drunk, but just feeling weird.
Ooh did they get >100,000? That’s much better than these pathetic 90,000s we’ve had recently.

It may just be PR figures being published. I have a contract with a major international ticketing company and they claim large stadium events have a no-show of 2% for most events which drops to between 0.9% and 1.2% for high importance events like the Superbowl.

THE winner’s bonus paid if Hawthorn wins the AFL grand final on Saturday will be made back three-fold in marketing for Tasmania, Sport Minister Michelle O’Byrne has said.
Under the Tasmanian government’s agreement with the Melbourne club, a bonus is paid depending on what stage it gets to in the finals.
See your ad here
Last year the state forked out an extra $150,000 for the Hawks grand final loss, but a win costs $300,000.
Ms O’Byrne said the investment was well worth it.
``Hawthorn’s bonus payment is far exceeded by the value of extra media exposure for Tasmania,’‘ she said.
``When Hawthorn last won the premiership in 2008, it was estimated that Tasmania received more than $1 million in media exposure from the finals series alone.’‘

Ms O’Byrne said the Hawthorn sponsorship deal provided a $15 million boost to the state’s economy, and reaching the grand final provided national and international brand exposure for Tasmania.
She said she would be tipping the Hawks to win.

I think that if Tassie rerally wants to cash in on the marketing opportuinites, they should first look at renaming the team they are backing.

I found it strange that the Spirit of Tasmania (through a backroom deal withthe Tas government) put up the money to support North Melbourne when most of the footy fans (and the team itself) fly in and out of the state…
They would have been much better sponsoring the car racing in Tas who have no choice but to use the Spirit of Tas to get here and back…
Is it safe to come out of my bunker yet?
I didn’t know that there was a footy final on till yesterday or which teams were in it.
Oh well.. next year..
