I suspect they are talking about Buddy Franklin going from Hawthorn to the Swans (Sydney).

As you are from ‘up there’ you don’t appreciate the finer points of Australian kulture.

Yes. Surprised me too.

AFL football.

Trade period is upon us. Everyone was expecting that the player Franklin of the Hawthorn club would move to the new Western Sydney team. Instead the Sydney Swans have gazzumped them with a more lucrative offer, which it looks like he will take instead.

A rort because Sydney get an extra salary cap allowance just for being in Sydney, to make sure the Sydney teams are competitive in an NRL dominated market. The Swans are using their extra allowance to poach players from other clubs, with no club being able to match their offer on account of the different salary cap.

Yep, him, Ron Barassi Snr and me’ll be a great team, a fast improvement on this year.

Further on the Franklin matter, it is rumoured on Big Footy forums that the Swans made a few salary cuts to other players so they could make such a large offer. It seems not all of these players are exactly gruntled right now. Ah well, resentment and jealousy is always good for team morale.
