Sorry, probably better to cut and paste the details:

Yagan
Sunday, 6 Oct 9:25pm

Murdered and cruelly beheaded in 1833 by those he trusted, the return of Yagan’s skull to Noongar country was a momentous occasion for Australian Indigenous people nationwide. This is his story. CAST: Clarence Ryan

Mmm, Kakadu was quite good. Not exactly sanitized, although possibly a bit overwrought occasionally in the commentary. Kingy needs to watch it next week, looks like a bushfire is going to happen. He can see if they do it all wrong……

(Well, Mr buffy always picks ambulance scenes to pieces)

Thanks for the heads up.

I am interested in the Yagan story. I visited the (newish) memorial site a couple of months ago but although there was some interesting hard and soft landscaping (and a geocache!) there wasn’t any interpretive signage.

I spent many hours in the library as a kid researching Yagan on microfiche of the early newspapers of the colony. I still have the essay that I wrote as a result.

I’m sorry to say that if I knew the story I have forgotten it. It sounds interesting.

Oh, and when I said Kakadu was not sanitized, I meant they do actually show killing of wild pigs and a crocodile and cutting up the bodies. So anyone a bit squeamish, just be aware of that. It’s just what has to happen, but often docos don’t like to show the unsavoury stuff.

KAKADU-DU, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody

And the Yagan documentary was interesting. I wasn’t sure about the mix of contemporary and historical costuming, but it did work. I now think I had known some of the story but not the detail. And we spent most of the doco trying to remember the actor playing his father…..we were sure he was familiar. I looked it up in the end, and he was documented himself in “Bastardy”. He was raised in a the boys’ home in Box Hill (Melbourne).
