archery is my sport :)
I don’t do sport. I do things I like to do. I’m not competitive. Our club head calls my archery Zen archery. I am better at it than i used to be. I can almost think the arrow into the gold now!
(I shoot barebow)
That’s barebow recurve.
:)

i was being inclusive only. I’m far from competitive. Archery is one rung below sword as an artform or meditative medium for me.

If it were within my means I would get hold of a Japanese or Mongol cavalry bow and practice horseback archery
My concession to modernity is my carbon fibre arrows. But I have real feather fletches and some of my arrows look like wooden ones (while retaining all the advantages of carbon fibre!)

Any idea if bamboo could be processed into a decent shaft?
These are some of my passtimes.

Nothing quite like searching for sunken shipwrecks and treasure!
Sunday afternoon ride through the twisties on the gsx-r.
I’ve never made a guitar, but one of my instruments (rebec fiddle) is featured (top right) in this Spanish Wikipedia entry about rebecs (or as they call them, rabel):

Either way, a good job.
My wife insists that I can’t play my guitar, or my “el kabong” as I call it.
I say that I can play – just inordinately badly – and, in any case, el kabong cannot be played by anyone because it’s strings are deceased (or they were until yesterday when I threw some new ones on).
Now I can play much more bad good.

Wow it must be at least 30 years since I last heard the name “El Kabong”

Is that good or bad though?

I made the one in the picture, yes.

Tip casting finished. Tuning pegs will be replaced in time and a black surface will be cast below the amber tip.

I had to add those qhotos because offically as of 4pm today I can say I will be a diving and riding bum for the foreseeable future. As of December 31 I will not have a place of employee and will be wandering the earth for 6 months.
Team I really want to do somethiing of use with my life. And in time I will seek your guideness. I hope I have enough kudos here to get you input.

I find no need to add supercilious information.

it’s the facial expressions that are of the most concern.

There are some Morris Dancing Nature Chapters in Scandinavia Mr Car.
They usually only have one bell though.

Riff, I’m currently in beautiful Melbourne – centre of the universe. I’ll be in Brisbane at some stage next year.
Riff, sorry for the hijack.
MIchael. Thanks, :). I’m all good but I just don’t want to waste this opportunity. I’ll start a new thread when I can clarify my thoughts.
Starting to look finished

check out the funky roller saddles you can get from the UK now. always irritated the crap out of me how the old saddles would just chew out

Would my suspicion be correct that these rollers could be set higher and get an effectively lower action than the conventional saddle due to the way the string will bend around the roller rather than sharply as on the fixed saddle?

final cast on headstock(just needs a final polish next string change so it can cure). Strings are cobalt and definitely have their own character

Riff-in-Thyme said:
Standard strings are steel and most will have nickel wound bass end. Cobalt sits between the two elements on the periodic table. It has a lower oxidation rate than it’s neighbors and apparently better magnetic qualities. It is an interesting contrast between cobalt, Fe and Ni as consecutive elements in the table. Nickel is employed with steel strings to soften the tone(plain steel has a harsh/sharp tone) and because steel oxidises quickly. Nickel smooths the tone out on new strings but on nickel wound strings, the steel string in the middle will still rust and lose it’s brighter qualities and the unwound strings die even quicker. If you don’t change an unwound string once it has gone dark you will start carving divets in your frets in no time, as well as your ears.
For musical tone in an electric guitar string, cobalt is to steel as aluminium is to wood in aircraft manufacturing. If you play and haven’t tried them, when you do you won’t look back. Got a set off ebay for 12 so it isn’t like it’s being twice the price of steel is a drama. As they will last longer it will more than make up for it.
