Good luck to my cousin’s boyfriend, Tim Slade. He’s driving a broooom-broooom car.

Yeah, Stumpy.
Holden have 7 spots in the top 10
There is less than 1 second seperating the first 5

Gosh, do you mean we might see more than the same two or three cars endlessly driving around the same road on the TV coverage?

yeah, shame to see no mercs or nissans in there (although the ratio of holden to other manufacturers is almost even)
It is going to be a bit different this year without the colonel logging in to inform people who already know that they cars are basically the same.

it will be interesting to see how many of them make the full distance, the newspeccars haven’t done that far yet and still have a few kinks to iron out

Probably just fibreglass. Warm it with a heat gun, and bend it back ito shape.
no, his co-driver lost rear brakes at 300kph, intowall, took them a half day to repair it, then Slade put it intothe wall and it took them 32 hours to repair including racing parts down from queensland that they needed.
No fibreglass in v8 supercars

I’ve always found it interesting that people claim that a ‘Ford’ or a ‘Holden’ won it.
What they should be saying is that ‘a high-powered, custom-built specialised racing machine which bears no resemblance at all to any car you or i can buy from any manufacturer, but which happens to have a fibreglass shell over it which resembles a Ford (or a Holden) won the race’.

get your facts right, it’s tin and carbon fibre. never been fibreglass in this category

Roger.
For ‘fibreglass’, read ‘tin and a more exotic sort of plastic’. Otherwise, o.k.

I see that you have very capably filled the void left by the colonel.

Yeah right-e-o, stop taking all the fun out of it, we all know that.

I remember when, if you were mad enough, you could enter the Bathurst race with your own bog-standard vehicle.
I remember when it was a production car race, and you could actually buy a duplicate of the car that won.
well, all i’ll say is that i hope they plant a lot of trees to offset the carbon emissions.

Agreed, I would like to see a proper production race as well. But you seem to think you are informing people who like and watch the race stuff they already know but with a hint of condescending smug. Much like the colonel.

Come on. Give us a break.
If you don’t like the V8’s you guys don’t have to troll the thread, please.
Anyway, they are using ethanol (85%) made from waste stock from local sugar cane processing
my humour is wasted here.

I haven’t had a chance to keep up with the lead up to this years race.
Been working to get all my stuff done so I am free all day tomorrow.
from V8Supercars.com.au:
Erebus Motorsport V8 aims to have the heavily damaged Heavy Haulage Australia Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG fully repaired and ready to go no later than the Sunday morning warm-up for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The car will definitely miss qualifying this afternoon, which means the Tim Slade/Andrew Thompson Benz will start from either the back of the grid or pitlane in Sunday’s 1000km classic.
With a race as long as Bathurst, does it matter as much compared to shorter races, where you start on the grid?

only from the point of congestion in the first few laps, further up the front means less cars around you to run into (r run into you)

Even considering how close the top 15 cars are in timing, not as much as shorter races, no
It’s definately a challenging race, it takes extra long focus and stamina, then if the weather changes it gets even more interesting.
I know it’s a regular road, but I’m still amused that Mt Panorama has a speed limit of 60 kph on non-race days.

yeah, same as sandown, must do 1/3 race distance, but gone are the days of the lead driver starting and finishing, they stick to 1 driver change nowadays.
They have brought in minimum number of pit stops now, but i’m not sure what the number is
Another downside to this rotten “spectacle” is that all the would be Wincups get out on the roads dreaming that they are comin’ down Conrod at 300.
And I’ve got to run down to Coffs tomorrow (s’ok I’m used to 100 (mph) on that road) but then I’ve got to pop up to Armidale on Monday and I don’t want to meet any top of the mountain try-hards on the Tyringham twists.
No surprise what I’ll be doing tomorrow.

On another note, I’m going to make a wild prediction that between lap 15-20 will be the first yellow flag. It will be on the downhill run.

My plan for today involves doing the mowing. The kyk has gone balistic with the recent weather. I have a new set of blades which require fitting too, but it’s a question of being arsed. However it is only 8 am here, so I won’t get the mower out yet.

Channel 7 seem to have got their act together in the coverage. The first year was pretty ordinary. I also think the coverage especially in and under car gear, overhead from helicopters and the cams on wires is probably the best coverage of any motorsport you see in any category in the world.

My memory is foggy but I vaguely remember reading/hearing many years ago that the mobile video transmission technology, specifically between the cars and the helicopter & back to base unit, was an Australian innovation and there was a specific connection with the V8 Supercar races.

I wasn’t interested because all the cars looked exactly alike apart from the paint jobs. They may as well have been go-cart racing.
The only diff between ‘supercars’ and go-karts is their size, and the money involved.
