Subject: Swinburne University & QUT

Hey folks
I have an internet buddy who has finished a degree in IT.
He lives in India (English is excellant) anyway, he wants to do post graduate studies in IT networking.
Travel to Oz and wants to apply for the July 2014 intake masters program.
Networking at Swinburne & security at QUT.

He was asking about their academic reputation and what they’re like with teaching the course work.

Do any of you well travelled academics have any feedback or helpful ideas I could pass on.

Thanks in advance

Can’t really say much positive for Swinburne.

Studied for 4 years at Swinburne (various courses), left for Monash, got sick of being screwed over and caught by bureaucrats, so went back to Swinburne, only to be screwed over again. Just ended up dropping out.

Only had a peripheral connection to both, know more about UNSW, UQ & Monash.

Swinburne is good for astrophysics but I don’t know much about anything else there. I did some work on computing airflows over a building in QUT to improve how well it dispersed the potentially dangerous gases issuing from fume cupboards.

Look at the entrance requirements for IT courses at both. You may find that the one with the highest entrance standards is the best.

given everything I’ve ever seen he’d be better off saving his money and learning more in india, the education is probably better and he’ll know the subject better.

I’ve considered studying short courses in sri lanka rather than waste thousands of dollars being taught by idiots who don’t know their subject
