Hi Crinkle—and welcome back
Hi Grasshopper. I have some reading to do to try to catch up on what everyone has been doing. Gardening in the tropics still has its challenges. At the moment I am waging war on rats, possums, grasshoppers, grubs and occassionally ‘the dogs’. Actually I have given up trying to catch them I am now working on excluding them.
Yes I guess everything grows so well up there—as you don’t have the seasons as we do a bit further Sth—-however I couldn’t stand to have the heat all the time myself—although I do love the Flora of the Nth
Winter time which is the Dry Season here is the best kept secret in Oz. The weather is delightful. Shhh don’t tell everyone.
I have spent some time up Nth and used to love it—but these days I don’t like it over 21 C
Yes it can get very uncomfortable here at times but I just hate being cold. Where are you?
I love the tropics, having grown up in Darwin. But all the rellies have now left, so I have excuse to go back. And more importantly, no free lodging if I do.
I know there’s a perception that everything grows well, but my dad used often complain about how difficult it was to grow a lot of veggies. They just don’t handle the humidity or the rain fall.
Mid coast NSW where are you roughly—
hey Crinkle i dont think i was here then.
Hi SueBk, Yes traditional vegies find it very difficult in the Wet Season. I, as do many others only grow them in the Dry and grow Asian vegies in the Wet.
Im in the Northern Suburbs of Darwin Grasshopper.
Yes very hot up there——and wet—in the season
Hi veg gardener, It was a few years ago that I was last in this forum. Always nice to make new friends.

i was in the old ga one as well
Yes I meant the old GA forum. Maybe we are old freinds. That’s a good thing about getting older you can meet new people all the time – again and again!!

yes we do.
:)
Hey grasshopper, where about on the Mid North Coast are you? I was actually born in Maclean quite a few years ago.

And the most asked question is—Who are you people and where am I ;)
I am in Port Stephens—a little bit Sth of McLean—
:)
So crinkle what do you grow
A lovely part of the country.
Yes I do love it here as well as were my Son lives on the Nth coast NSW lovely there as well
Not much growing at the moment veg gardener. I have tomatoes mildew created havoc with the first crop of zucchini and grasshoppers ate the second, also lettuce, other Asian greens and some herbs.
Opps forgot …and climbing beans
Anyway better get and do more here—catch you later—
Next time grasshopper… I should get busy too.
is the warm season up there isn’t it?
Me too I was in the old GA forum and oly found this last week. Good to see some of the old names here
Winter down South is our Dry Season which as its sounds is cooler with no rain. We actually have night temperatures below 20 degrees at the moment.
Summer down South is our Wet Season which is just like it says… hot and wet and very humid 24/7.
welcome back one and all
Hi gcvegie
Hello
Hello Crinkle.
someone was saying if we had a darwinite and a taswegian we would have all states covered.
welcome back.
i was in darwin – for two years – 1978-9. never did any gardening up there though – too busy drinking LOL.

walking up stairs is thirsty work in darwin.
the bouganvilleas is the plant i remember most from my stay in Fanny Bay
Yes pepe some of the boganvillea are truly spectacular. ‘They’ keep developing new and wonderous variations. Orchids, bromiliads, gingers, crotons … all create that tropical look.
hi Crinkle. the old grey matter is struggling, have you always been “Crinkle”?
Hi bluegreen, yes I have always been Crinkle. I remember you from the past forum.
Waves to Crinklle. Hello from me ( melbourne-very cold place )

I do remember way back ‘chatting’ with … uummmm … I think it was Tessa about fish/frog ponds and lining them with shade cloth …

Gosh, if you remember Tessa you’re definitely a way-back-from-the-dinosaurs type of oldtimer!
Tessa’s rocks were the inspiration for the edging on my vegie beds – actually, I ran out of rocks and had to use secondhand bricks, but that’s neither here nor there.
Hi Crinkle and gcvegie and SueBk and Pokie and anyone else newly returned – nice to meet you !
Hello Crinkle:) Welcome home:D
Hi orchid40, since I found my way back here today I had done little other than read lots of postings and chat a bit. I guess I will have to be stronger tomorrow. Hey, what the hec, I’m on holidays. It’s really nice to ‘see’ you all again.
Hi Lucky1 How are your ducks?

I now have a Light Sussex`rooster & 3 hens, thanks to BG:)
I guess that means lovely eggs too. Do you enjoy your duck eggs? Many years ago in another life time I had chickens and ducks. I just loved the duck eggs – muskovies

I now make a FAB TAB of a sponge cake with duck eggs. Still sell the eggs and use them in my own cooking.

Aquarium pops in on occasion. I wonder whatever happened to the photo site that Libster and Lucky used to coordinate? If the others are around, they must have other names.
I popped out for over a year, popped back in again recently. They’ll have a hard time shaking me ;)
Actually, now that I’ve said that, our kit home arrives on the back of a truck in October and we’re moving in December come hell or high water, even if it’s not finished. We’ll park our tents next to the slab if necessary. Don’t know when we’ll afford the solar panels, so without electricity I may not get near the internet for quite a while!

Buffy’s still very much involved on the other ABC forums.
I think Rosie was actually Rosebud.

you can’t. But we don’t need to because we can put pictures up here. We used that in the old GA forum when we couldn’t post pictures.

I used to help Libster back years ago VG.
I don’t know what happened to her. And out of respect that, this was her web site……it stays the way it is.

Hello all. Have just finished a shift stocking shelves (it’s 11.30pm here), we finished an hour early tonight so I thought I’d drop by but nobody up. Oh well.
Nice to see some of the GA crew appearing at long last. Well done VG for directing them here.
Off to scan through a couple more topics.

Shade cloth wouldn’t be very watertight. :PHello all. Have just finished a shift stocking shelves (it’s 11.30pm here), we finished an hour early tonight so I thought I’d drop by but nobody up. Oh well.

Hi horty, you are right shade cloth is not water tight. It was laid over the pond liner to cut down heat absorption from the black liner and gave something for water plant roots to hold on to.
