Gold found growing in eucalyptus trees in world-first CSIRO research

Geoscientists in Perth have discovered gold particles in the leaves, twigs and bark of eucalyptus trees, claiming a “eureka” moment that could revolutionise gold mining.

CSIRO researchers believe the trees, sitting on top of gold deposits buried deep underground, suck up the gold in their search for moisture during times of drought.

Interesting, but shouldn’t that be microscopic?

Yes, one fifth the diameter of a human hair.
I see we are really getting into the US notation.

Whilst there may be gold in the gum trees I am not sure that it can said to be growing…

Taken up and sequestered. This topic of metal accumulators and hyper-accumulators as indicators of subsurface geological deposits was brought up in the old forum a while back.

There’s microscopic traces of gold in poo too, but no one’s lining up to mine sewerage.

A similar finding was found in ant bed fines.

True? or a corruption of the story by Herodotus circa 400 BC of gold-digging ants” in Afghanistan.

Well there’s microscopic traces of gold everywhere.

The big news here is that there are visible specks.
