100 micron seems the normal layer

someone has mentioned you can smooth the ridges by rubbing a cloth with acetone over the model that’s been created.

if you use the PLA plastic you can use the model as a cast for aluminium/ steel, the plastic evaporates safely and metal fills its place

Have used results from two 3-D printshops (sent CAD drawings) but haven’t used a 3-D printer directly, both printshops produced flexible (but not extremely flexible) plastic items, the largest was 1 metre tall. I was surprised at how cheap they were and how good they were at sub-millimetre precision.

I was looking at this comparison chart again earlier today:

Approximately $20,000 or Less

I believe that Bill has one.

Perhaps ask him to print you one :)

I found it much less expensive than I expected. Much less expensive than machining it out of metal for instance.

The link that Morrie has above give a good enough report of them.
I’d get a Reprap unit if I did it again, I’ve got an UP unit now and it gets a bit of use.
