Can anyone tell me what this tree might be?

It drops its leaves in autumn. Flowers in winter, and the bees love it. Grows leaves and fruit in spring. The fruit look like small, hard, dark gree nectarines. They never get any bigger than the about the size of a walnut.

We haven’t touched it in the 6 years we’ve been here. I’m wondering, if it flowers in winter, when should it be pruned? It’s on the front verge, against the fence, and starting to look a little straggley. Even though its never had an eatable fruit, its very pretty this time of year; and it helps keep the graffiti writers off my fence.

My limited understanding is some fruit trees need the colder weather (which here in Bris we don’t get) in order to fruit; and some trees need a partner to set viable fruit. Not knowing what this is, I don’t know whether to just enjoy its pretty flowers, or find another and plant it nearby.

Forgot to mention the skin of these baby fruits that set is furry, like a peach. I’ll try to remember to take a photo, probably in a month or so.

Throws my guess out the window.

Maybe it’s just one of the ornamental flowering peaches. That would explain why the fruit never comes to much.

what I was thinking. With pruning, when does new growth start? In spring? Does it flower on the new growth or on the previous year’s growth?

I’ve never pruned it, so I don’t know. I was thinking, it probably needs pruning early summer, after the fruit-that’s-not-fruit has fallen off.

I would go with that.

Just rearranged my photobucket into albums; which might make it easier (for me) in the long run. In case the original link has disappeared:

Lovely blooms.
I’d say an ornamental as well. Most of the fruiting varieties have single flowers, not double.
