I have never used RSS before but am thinking of using it to ensure that I catch up with content. From those who have used it, what are the pros and cons of RSS? One immediate one I think may affect me is that I am have a wireless modem and so am only going to be able to get feeds when I log on (vice someone with a permanent connection).

Not avidly but I used to use miro which was pretty good for doing stuff automatically. The only reasons I went back to manual download were that sometimes the downloads were slower than alternative downloaders and it inexplicably kept on being deleted every time I did a major update …

Depending on the site, you can get overwhelmed.

Most of my RSS feeds post a single item per day. If you subscribe to a news feed, or particularly active website you will be constantly getting new items. They can build up very quickly.
