My brother has a hand held Sony video recorder that records to an SD drive

but he wants to record longer HD video than the limits of current SD cards

Is there a way to use an SD card reader extension to record to a an external hard drive

or a wifi sd card to a wifi drive

or a wifi sd card to a tablet

other options?

My Sony HD video camera has an optional external hard drive. I have never used it though, as the SD card has an awesome amount of storage. When shooting video, it is usual to split the shots up into short bursts and edit them together in something like Sony Vegas. In which case you just switch cards. Stealth knows a bit about this sort of stuff I think.

An external drive via USB or WiFi would probably not be fast enough. You would be better off getting a bigger SD card of the correct speed for the camera. HD video requires high write speed, that is why these types of cards are used in these devices.
