A typical 10-minute shower can use 150 liters of water and requires energy to keep all of that incoming water hot. An innovative new design recycles shower water so only around five liters of water is needed and can be used and reused for weeks.

The OrbSys shower system is the brainchild of Mehrdad Mahdjoubi, an industrial designer. The idea was first conceived when he was studying at the University of Lund in Sweden when he wanted to combat the large amounts of water waste associated with bathing. After graduation, he began to collaborate with NASA to bring life to the idea.

Rain water tanks are another water saving device.
2 years ago I lived on rainwater for 7 months & last year 5 months without skimping on usage.

This tank, at White Cliffs, is always full of the best water I have ever tasted, every time we go up to use it. In 1989 we wrapped some corrugated iron in a circle tied it with a wire and poured mullock into it, laid a flat sheet of corrugated on top and sat the tank on it all. some guy wires and it has been full ever since.

White Cliffs gets about 150mm per year. at a roughy type guess.

Yes, I thought my reply would have ascertained that it wasn’t officially recognised methodology..

We are a small group in a small village. We do only use the standard 10” rain gauge.

I use two that are within the parameters I mentioned. The other person is across the road from me. The third is down the bottom of this calcrete and some times covered with sand, dune.

I did mean FLAT.. we have a significant wetland bird site and low sand dunes with calcrete beneath, which is why they aren’t flat.
