filmed carefully with special effects to give the illusion of him standing there unsupported.
In real life, no insurer would permit this. Even standing like that, at that height between two rigs not moving wouldn’t be allowed.

the safety harness might have been shopped out
Yeah, could be that too. However they’ve done it, I’d suggest no insurer would permit the stunt without some safety harness.

It’s real but he’s wearing fake legs.

Yep it’s real.
They really did it just like that and the trucks really were revering, the film isn’t played backwards so the trucks were going forwards. Quite remarkable.
Ummm yes but no…
Until the rocket man said yes, I was all for shopped.
Spose it could be done on take 9…
No idea how they did it in real life because I’m not an expert.
But I reckon something, and I’m prepared to share with you lot, just this once, the full majesty of my uninformed reckon.
I reckon they an inverted Y-shaped steel frame with the two legs bolted or welded onto each truck. These are on a pivot, with a vertical shaft sticking up. The person (whether the real actor or a stunt-double) is harnessed to the vertical post, underneath his clothing. He then just needs to move his legs to match the movement of the frame.

Nope, take #1 they reckon.
My Anatomy lecturer was quite certain that Van Damme had had bone removed from his pelvic girdle to allow him to pull off the deep splits he was so famous for.
Hope that helps.

Yeah – do people do those sorts of operations, for no real medical reason?

Absolutely. Whether it’s an obviously ‘plastic’ change (boobs, bum, chin etc) or a performance enhancement that wont show up in a blood test, they are increasingly becoming the norm in the sports / entertainment professions.

That footage isn’t the same incident. It’s a South African match in which no-one was killed:
Just days before the Bena Tshadi incident, a South African Premier League game was abandoned after seven players and the referee were sent sprawling to the turf. As a Guardian report from the time explained: “Two players from Moroko Swallows were kept in hospital but the coach of opposition Jomo Cosmos hinted that some Swallows players had faked injury. ‘Our observation was that only two players were seriously injured but more fell down,’ he said. The Swallows were 2-0 down with 12 minutes to go.”

maybe it’s “Don’t shelter under a tree or an African football team in a storm”…..

Fixed :p
People being injured or killed by lightning on sports fields is sadly not all that rare. Such activities obviously ought to be called off when there’s an electrical storm overhead.

Aye. Florida is particularly bad for golfers.

I’m waiting for the day I hear “11 golfers were struck dead by lightning today in what is being called a ‘win by tennis’…….”
I think the video is sped up a bit
No reason to think it is not real
Definitely fake. Why the hell would anyone want to be seen near a Volvo of any sort? :-)

I’d say at the least, it was filmed with the trucks rolling forwards and the footage played backwards.

It would have been going backward because that would have been the easiest direction for Van Damme to keep his balance.
It’s real but the harness is removed and they built a platform behind the mirrors to stand on

Yeah I was thinking the top half of his body could have been shopped in once they were moving so he could hold on to something. Maybe/maybe not.

doesn’t want Jackie Chan showing him up huh?
CGI I reckon.
The story about the safety harness is the distraction that leads you off the scent.
I’ll have no truck with their deception.

Well what do you expect from bloody Volvo drivers?
““Van Damme’s feet secured to the mirrors, but we had him rigged so that if he would fall off he wouldn’t die, obviously. We didn’t want to be responsible for killing the Muscles from Brussels.” reported Andreas Nilsson the video director to The Wall Street Journal.”
