Actually we are about to have the happy circumstance of having three comets visible to the naked eye, and that does not happen much.

Unless I am interpreting the footage incorrectly. Isn’t it showing the Earth from a different vantage point in space?

Thanks. I should have looked at your link before asking silly questions:

COMETS IN THE SOLAR WIND: NASA’s STEREO-A spacecraft is monitoring Comet ISON as it approaches the sun. The latest movie from the spacecraft’s Heliospheric Imager captures not only Comet ISON but also Earth, Mercury, and Comet Encke.”

My computer was completely unresponsive for about 20 minutes whilst it tried to get that gif-video downloaded and sorted out. Maybe your computer and/or connection is faster than mine. And I know mine is not the slowest connection, nor is it likely the slowest computer.

I was asking for a bit of thoughtfulness. And letting others know that they may have troubles.

Most likey something with your computer mate. a 4.7 mb GIF shouldn’t be any big deal. Even with a dial-up connection that should only take under five minutes to load.

It was observed to go around the back of the sun, but only a thin streamer came around the other side. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-25143861

By landing it where?

I recall when finishing a fruitless night of attempting to get photos of the last visit of Halleys. I was struck by the burning into my retinas of a bit of debris passing through our atmosphere. It is an event I can never forget. It looked like god struck a match. A spark at the extreme periphery of my vision that became a white line that traversed the whole hemisphere of vision(it is very flat country here) and passed the horizon looking like looking up the arse end of a rocket.
