on 29th june i planted the understorey of my native section.
about 20 shrubs and ground covers between the 18 native trees that are growing well.
i used paper and straw mulch to keep the weeds at bay.

one stalk at a time – we had them in salad last night and they are stringless and tasty fresh.
probably could grow celery in richer soil – but i didn’t have any ready at planting time.

I bought one of those last season Peps. I found it to be no good at all. The tomatoes were stunted and I threw it all in the compost. Yours might work though.

I used to grow tomatoes in growbags in the UK. They were a lot bigger and had the tomato food included in them. They worked well.

they are from the same batch of seedlings i gave you. i planted these seedlings out early may – so i guess it was 6-8 weeks before i started picking. they respond to liquid feed but the cold weather might slow them.

There was an article in Bris Sunday Mail gardening section last week on using a paste (home made) as a fertiliser on tree trunks and the like. It seems to be working very well in the experimental stages and bentonite was one of the ingredients.

If I knew how to do it I would put up the link so you could all read it. It was most interesting.

yes VG – they are the sweet peas.
when did you (and OC40) plant peas??
a few more piccies of the winter garden – broad beans, brassicas, spinach and carrots, red cabbage and lettuce.
you have to click the photo to see the veges because the weeds are everywhere at present.

you need a cold, wet spring – rain plus cool weather in september could give you a bumper crop.
