Many forumers have had a horrible year. Of course, we lost one of our own: Geoff was a valued poster and he’s greatly missed. As well as losing Geoff, other forumers have lost family members, which is never easy even if it’s expected. Other forumers have lost their jobs, which is disheartening. In all, it’s not been a year full of fun or happiness (except for Arts, who is perpetually happy).

This year did have some good bits: MV’s Brissy pud in March was a highlight, Geoff finally had his book published, I got to meet the Perth crew (apologies for being a complete zombie that day, I was beyond exhaustion), SSSF was recognised as being the first online use of the word “selfie”…

Wishing all forumers and their families a super duper 2014. We’re all in this together… and by choice!

Hear hear.
My most horribilis this past year was the damage done to my shoulder. Who would have thought that such a small fall could have hurt this much for this long?

Hope you all have better things to say.

I don’t think I’ve had a bad year. Yeah, I did a bit of worrying about my Mum and I angsted a lot about bullying her, but I think we might now have the right resolution of that problem. And I’ve become more accustomed to my 4 day weeks. Takes a long time to break habits, doesn’t it.

I’ve just turned over 28 years of running my own practice and in about 10 days I will have been practising as an optometrist, registered in Victoria, for 32 years. I reckon I’ve done OK.

It’s been a meh-ish year for me in some ways. The procrastination bug and the depression virus had me firmly by the throat. I made it through w/o too many tears. Geoff D’s death was a very low point – a gentleman to the end – even though he was seriously ill.

Things I am grateful for include:
1. No surgery this year (hopefully)!!!
2. Rudolph* – the previous store manager was fired (complete arsehole mongrel) and I was there to witness it. WOOT!
3. My sons seem to be doing okay. Especially son#1and we may have mended a few fences. Schizophrenia is a wicked and cruel illness.
4. Jim and I celebrated 10 years of marriage – nearly 12 years of knowing each other. Not bad for a relationship that started with a mistaken PM in a Yahoo chat room.
…and recently, 5. I might have found my creative brain. It was hiding at the back of a dusty cupboard, cowering in fear. We are friends again.

Thanks, DA xx

We actually had our 38th wedding anniversary a couple of weeks back.

The interesting thing is that she forgot to press me for forgetting. It is something we always did.. She’d storm out waving the marriage certificate “you forgot!” My reply was always the same. “you know the celebrant signed the papers the day before. Happy Anniversary.” :)

So, this year we both forgot.

Yep. Horribilisest annus ever. And it’s getting worse by the day. Things better improve next year.

It’s been a great year for me. The best in quite a few. Which means my happiness is well justified. It’ll only get better too .. I have a ‘hit rock bottom’ reference now, things will never get as bad as that again. :).

I hope those who have had not so nice years have a better 2014

Yeah, I had one of those some years back. But this year is significantly worse and at the rate it’s deteriorating, next year is looking likely to surpass it.

Mine have been dropping further each year. I’ve got a lot of leap years to jump over.

More a “nothing” year than a horrible one, this end. Managed to keep body & soul together (although there’s still too much body and not enough soul). Next year should be a lot more productive.

I’ve dodged a few bullets, dealt with more than a few arseholes and copped an injury to discover I am invincible.

Between the infectious positivity of Arts and Spiderlily it is difficult to feel bad about the last 12 months. The good has more than outweighed the bad, and I for one am hoping the big changes early in the new year will improve things.

I believe the correct internet speak is “pics or it didn’t happen” but in this case, I’m happy not to see evidence.
