I have been so inspired by that segment on GA a couple of weeks ago about the couple in Freo. Everywhere I look in my garden (super shady) I can see opportunities for mirrors. If I give in to my inclinations we’ll become known as the “Mirror House”. LOL.
First, on the north-east side of the house, above my veggie patch. Would help keep it sunny all winter long.
Secondly, on the north-west side of the house. There a 6 foot fence, up a slight slope, that keeps a lot of sun out of the base of the garden. Our plants tend to grow tall and spindly in the front garden. I was thinking today, as I was outside, some mirrors, lowish on the house would pick up some of that light and reflect it back into the garden just above ground level.
And then thirdly, in Frog Corner, some carefully angled mirrors might put some sun down the south side. There’s about two a year where it gets about 1/2 an hour of sun; severely limiting what will grow (excluding all the slippery stuff on the concrete).
The Man thinks I’m made, but I’m serious considered painting my concrete herb pots (for example) with silver paint; and any garden mosasics will incorporate mirror tiles and other shiny bits. For some reason, until I saw that segment, I never considered reflected sun as a viable option. I’m not keen on hanging, dangling things like crystals or CDs, ‘cause I’m trying to encourage birds in (although it might be an option in the veg patch); but there’s heaps of other ways I can build reflection into the yard.
