We have had some wonderful winter weather. It was minus 5C yesterday morning at 7:00 in the garden…so exhilarating that I went for a 2 mile walk with Elle Wuffles…who did the distance about 3 times by the time she got home…we even had frost – haven’t seen frost in years…one of the most beautiful mornings of my life…

The frost was in the hollows – those drains beside the road…but my tomatoes were suffering (again) more from lack of water than frost thank goodness

I thought of going again this morning as it was only -4C, but the atmosphere was more moist than yesterday…

The children have been lighting the fire in the fireplace…burn you rotten leucaena, burn and we have taken ‘smores to new heights by using those chocolate coated mint biscuits to sandwich the mallows…I can only eat two…

frogs are definitely hibernating…I have 3 under the milkshake maker base…and not a t_o_a_d to be found….hee hee hee

I should point out that we really only get about 4 – 6 weeks of true winter…

There is no wind when we first get up, so the temps are pure cold…no wind chill factor here…

today was sunny ..bright wintery day ..makes a nice change after a week of drizzle and below 0 temperatures . I got out and planted 2 buddlea and a old man salt bush around the new chook habitat… aptly supervised by Mrs Croad and her shy friend( 2 big black feathery supervisers …)
night shift for the necxt 5 days ..so I doubt I’ll see the sun until friday ….if I dont sleep all of it away .

I braved the cold and pulled out a dead wattle and replaced it with Grevillea “Moonlight”. Pick some tamarillos and pulled weeds for a while. I have sorted out some books to go on freecycle and am now cooking a cake.

Very good BG. I cooked a cake before lunch. I keep making this Choc fruit slice, and every time I do we get unexpected visitors (which is nice) but the cake disappears in a day. This time I’ve done a double quantity, which will probably ensure that we don’t see a livin’ soul LOL

June averages (while we talking winter)

Mean Temp = 25.9
Max Temp = 32.1
Min Temp = 21.2
over 30 on 20 days
there was 4 days in a row where it didn’t quite get to 30
19.4mm in rain over 7 days with 7.2mm being the heaviest day

Drier than June of 07, but cooler :)

Left Brisbane just after the 74 floods; arrived in Darwin about October 74. Great year for my mum; who was 21, had two pre-schoolers, and was dragged off to the tropics for adventure. Well – they got adventure!

I left in 89. Went to Darwin Primary, which is now (I think) an arts centre or something. On Woods Street behind the post office (which was Little Woolies). Then went to Darwin High. Worked for lawyers in the city until I left to join a travelling drama company. Been gone longer than I lived there, but for better or worse I still consider myself a Darwin person.

Arriving in October 74 did you and your family go through ‘Tracy’? I arrived February 74 but thankfully was on holidays in NSW at the time. Everything I owned was blown away but it was only ‘stuff’ and I couldn’t wait to get back!

We did survive Tracy. Long story, but I owe my life to a bouganvillea LOL. Remind me to tell you one day ;) Didn’t lose too much, that I’m aware of (and how aware are most kids). We’d only just arrived and a lot of stuff was still in storage down south. Having said that, we lost our caravan which was our home. And I did only get one christmas present that year ;)

No, the idea has never occurred…to tell the truth we don’t go near the fridges much in the winter…the fruit will keep out of the fridge in this weather, altho I still put the vegetables in the crisper, as the days warm up a bit…

always tonic weather up here. Went for a walk in Bougainville with a couple of local lads, and they were complaining about the ferocity of the sun, it had rained everyday in the weeks leading to my visit. I always drag the sunshine when I travel around PNG, and I told these guys that they were getting soft. Moresby sunshine is always hot.

So we found a bakery that didn’t sell pastries but we did find a tiny bar that sold cold beer. The two local guys were stoked when I bought them a couple of cold frosty ones. And the Aircon worked inside the bar too.

She did, she did…especially after Dad passed away…it has been passed on to Sonny Jim, full of dints where she hit things (at home only) but with only 50,000 on the clock after 21 years of ownership…she only drove it twice a week, tho’: to church on Wednesday and the shops on Saturday. (The battery was continually flat). The original tyres were on it too…one peeled off on the trip from her home to here, and the other while I was taking Sonny Joe to school one morning…

We lliked it when she took over the wheel on the long drives so Dad could have a spell: up to 70mph we kids would sit in the back and enjoy the drive, after 75 mph we would get anxious and start clearing our throats…somehow the speedo would just creep up unawares…

She used to hold the most fun-filled parties, until Dad got very ill…

Still raining here.
Biggest drop in this area for a while :)

This site not staying connected for me , really irritating , my typing doesn’t show up as letters, just lines, then it refreshes and then shows up but by then it’s disconnected, so I’ll be off for now.
