I have noctied that the dogs like a nibble now and then on the lemon grass. I also noticed the cats eating grass shoots in the cat enclosure aka ‘Pussy Palace’, so put some lemon grass in there too. One in particular seems to graze happily. Does anyone know whether lemon grass could be detrimental to cats …or dogs?

Dogs and cats do seem to need some grassy vegetation every now and then. I don’t see that lemon grass would do them any harm. You can get Cat Grass that is supposed to be particularly beneficial to cats. You could try growing some in the cats’ pen.

Thanks bluegreen I have some cat grass sprouting at the moment. It’s in a foam crate so I won’t put it in the Pussy Palace until it has grown a bit otherwise it may become the new cat tray !!

Gee thanks bluegreen. I think it’s wheat grass juice they make those drinks from. They must be good for you, they don’t taste too flash. An acquired taste perhaps.

Maybe I could grow a ‘row’ of cat grass across the back of the herb tubs, so The Furred One could nibble through her cage. When I grew my herbs on the window sill we did catch her occassionally having a nibble. The only thing that made her sick was the cat nip – I put it outside and it died. I have lemon grass; but in a totally different spot of the garden.

Put some chicken wire across the top of the tub and tuck the sides down so she can’t get scratched. That way she can nibble the grass without digging it up.

I can’t take the credit. I read it on a cat site. :)

Thanks anyway … I have put some of that plastic mesh over the soil in the foam crate. I pushed it down around the edges and had to hold it down in the middle with some homemade tent pegs but I reckon it will work a treat. I won’t put it in the Pussy Palace until the seeds have properly sprouted.

Toyshop sells a grass in the herb section called “Cat Grass”.

Don’t dogs and cats eat grass to aid digestion? I’m sure I read it or maybe I was told that.

I planted cat grass and it’s growing nicely in the Pussy palace but Pepper prefers the lemon grass !!!

Hence …………………. it is not very tall as she has a little graze every day.
