Is it possible for human eye colour to change with mood?

I’m thinking not.

Why Do My Eyes Change Colour with My Moods?
Answer
Yours eyes change colour depending on your mood due to the dilation of your pupils which exposes the muscle fibres coloured by various melanin. Expansion of these muscle fibres changes the concentration of melanin thus the colour of your eyes.

This sounds feasable, but I don’t know, it’s not what I call a reputable source…lol
I would have thought it more to do with how light is reflected/absorbed in the eye.

Alcohol or mace also can play a part.

I can’t comment on the reasons given above, but I knew a girl whose eyes changed colour with her mood. I most often saw green, but also saw them change to blue – a very different colour to the green – and some colours in between.

I have observed different coloured clothing soil pick some colours more than others for the outfit and highlights (seemingly) matching tones. Light reflecting seems likely culprit and lighting of the surrounds.

Retypes…….

I have observed different coloured clothing that makes certain tones dominate over other tones depending upon the coordinates coupled together. For example a blue and beige top matched with beige shorts throws to beige and likewise blue shorts makes the blue dominate as a colour. I observed this affects the appe
arance of eye colour to some degree. Reflecting light yeah?

turns out his family knew he was a problem – must have known he would snap in the end at some point – probably hasn’t killed anyone yet so that’s why they let him out – its always the way.

This one. People with very light coloured eyes – usually described as grey – get grey/green/blue/aqua depending on the colour on their chest at the time. The natural colour of your eyes is genetically fixed and shouldn’t change except in cases of disease. There is a condition where the melanin of the iris can ‘rub off’ so to speak (it is obviously more complex) and then the stuff drifts around in the anterior chamber of the eye, clogs up the drainage channels and causes glaucoma. But it takes time and is certainly not mood related.

There was a shortlived trend for coloured contacts, but that seems to have died, probably when goths and such make it seem silly with having slit and vampire point, or totally black eyes.

You can still get them Skunkworks. Although recently I tried finding some for a patient (I was out of touch, not fitting contacts now) and found it difficult. Standard contact lenses can be ordered with a tint. Most favoured one with my patients was always mid aqua. Although with the move to daily disposable contact lenses, there are fewer of those that come with any tint at all.

Unfortunately they are sold in fashion shops and at markets and people use them without being taught the safety aspects. There is at least one young lady in Australia with severely compromised vision because of a corneal infection. They also swap them with each other in clubs and stuff. It’s a very dangerous thing to do.

Not forgetting that perception of self (and others) more globally changes with mood and more. Like for example when angry a person can literally see red, and certainly fondness of eye colour (and more, to do with eyes, given anything from dark to fond messages can get sent through them) gets some change here and there.

Imagine the eyes of other person/s over the range of most extremes you’ve ever experienced, you’d get the gist.

Tiredness and fatigue probably wash out vividness of colours and contrast also. So self-reporting of that to do with eyes from the apparatus behind the eyes is likely to be perceptually coloured (even neutralized). Eyes are part of substantially active radar.

Thanks folks
I was reasonably confident that human eye colour was fixed and didn’t change with mood and was more to do with light reflection/absorbstion and also perception of the observer.

It’s interesting that the colour of shirt or top can influence how others might perceive the colour of someones eyes.

Iris can’t be black. Very dark brown, yes. Not black. The pupil is black. Because it’s dark in there.
