Kerry, thankyou for your years of service to the cricket tragics of Australia.
I was lucky to have heard the frog story all those years ago.
Stay tuned folks, there is going to be more of Kerry during the lunch time break.

They’ll look like actors in one of those old Japanese kung fu shows. Out of synch.

Yeah, been doing that for years, and it pisses channel 9 off no end. They tried delaying the TV picture but this only helps, as it gives you a clue what to look for on the screen.

Why would it annoy them? They get the same advertising dollar? How would they even know?

It’s not a deliberate delay afaik. It’s a delay put in by the digitisation process

Not so bear, Channel 9 have been doing this for years, as a lot of people were doing this, and not hearing their advertisers message.

I think the introduction of the picture delay goes back proly 20 years.
there’s always been a bit of a delay between the radio and the TV pictures, even when I was a kid. It got worse when TV went digital. But these days I have a digital radio which has a slight delay too compared to analogue, so with the sound down on the TV and the digiatl radio on the delay isn’t so bad.

I prefer the delay as it can give you a clue as what to watch for on the screen.
Channel 10 has a longer delay than Channel 9. On Ch 9, when you hear the crowd across the road, you have just enough time to grab the TV remote and flick over to the cricket, just in time to see the appeal. On Channel 10, there’s enough time to grab the remote, flick the TV over to the cricket, and see the ball being bowled so you still have time to see it “live”.
It’s also a longer delay on channel 9 through Fox cable than channel 9 free to air through the aerial.
There’s also a longer delay on some TVs at the gym, by probably a good tenth of a second. It’s very disconcerting. If nobody is around, I usually turn off the out-of-synch TVs so it doesn’t put me off.

that’s cos electrons travel slower than photons.
