You know vg … big boots can be very hard to fill but that dosen’t mean impossible … Whenever there is change there is always adjustment.
I think Pete is fabulous but the time is approaching when he will have to hand over the reins and we just need to trust that they will be turned over to someone who can do another fabulous job. It WILL be different but that is what life is about.

Picking this out of another thread.

GA has the advantage of knowing for some time that Peter would be retiring. I’m sure in the background there’s some ‘grooming’ of the replacement happening. The show will change, but different is necessary better or worse, it’s just different.

I think the main elements that make GA work are:

For me (personally) the focus on organic/natural solutions is also a drawcard.

What appeals to you (all) about the show?

I think the main elements that make GA work are:

  • people feel they can take on a lot of the projects that shown; but at the same time it’s not dumbed down.
  • it’s national – they cover just about every section of the country, except possibly the interior
  • it’s got absolutely STUNNING photography.

For me (personally) the focus on organic/natural solutions is also a drawcard.

I think for me, The friendly, down-to -earth approach
Good advice easy to understand,
Wide variety of subjects and locations,
The back-up of magazines and episode downloads,
The humour now & then.

Probably more but my brain’s in bed-time mode :)

fruit and veggies, i like the way pete does the veggies he really gets in to it same with the fruit trees, he doesn’t care if he gets a mess (same here), me and him have (had) the same type of climate.

Morning … I think for me the sincerity is a big factor. The programme dosen’t have all the hype, glitz and glamour of some of the ‘others’. There is a big push for sustainability/naturalness and care of the planet. The information is factual, often with tips for doing things cheaply and always encouraging that enyone can do it. And that’s my bloomin’ lot.

Having a presenter or two in each state is better than having a single state focus.
Being non-commercial is important because all the other garden shows are vehicles for selling goods.

I’m guessing a newbie will be found for Tasmania and they will probably do segments on Pete’s patch as well. The three options then are: the newbie is also the main presenter; one of the long termers somewhere else is the main presenter or a newbie is located somewhere else to be the main presenter. There’s pros and cons to all those scenarios.

A newbie based in Bris is unlikely ‘cause we’ve already got two presenters (I think), although Jerry does most segments. Darwin is equally unlikely because of the production difficulties. A newbie in Perth is a possibility, although I think its likely to stay on the Eastern seaboard. Josh is a possibility as he also grows veg, and there’s already often a focus on his garden.

I guess we just have to wait and see. Might have to go get ready for the day. I downloaded the weekend’s episode last night; so got some viewing of my own to do now.

i think the show emphasizes inclusivity and simplicity (through organic principles) and that’s why so popular. other shows have tried to copy this but haven’t been able to be as successful. such (other shows) expensive makeovers quickly become boring as these “solutions” to gardening problems are unattainable by most.

each to their own Aqu. I have felt for many yars that the show has become some what ‘boring’ but then again I have been watching the show for donkeys years and so much is repatative, but for the new gardener is is excellant, once I would never miss a show or made sure I saw the repeated eps. ?? and how much can or did Pete do in his patch that was the same after say 2 years of airing ??I had all the mags home delivered for around 4 – 5 years and then cancelled as I was not taking them out of the plastic as they where just all adds and the same of stuff ! Same as Don Burke as well !!

Time for change I say to get me watching again .

i’m also not desperate anymore to see the show every week. along with all the reading and knowledge gained from the show, i can manage to grow vegies now without help. so the show has done it’s job. since there’s not much else on tv nowadays anyway, am not watching the box regularly. we had a nice mild day for a change, so am already looking forward to early spring planting of brassicas and peas. have decided to re-do (properly) the raised garden beds before spring planting.
still Peter Cundall will forever be one of my favorite gardening tv presenters/personalities. can’t say the same for presenters from other gardening shows. i’ve still yet to try Pete’s favorite drink..kale water/juice.
