Subject: Creating my own wireless network

Calling all tech heads,

I work on a FIFO mine site. A couple of the guys here and I are going to set up our own network to play games over. We need to set up a system which will cover 150m. We are currently considering 3 omni-directional antennaes, signal boosters, 2 wifi cards and 1 wifi router. Does anyone have any experience setting this kind of thing up and can give us some hints and tips, or expert advice?

As a side note, one of the people involved is close enough to the main IT centre to pick up their wireless network signal through which we can access the internet. Is there also an easy way to redistribute that internet access to our network?

Cheers.

Cheers. But do we only need one extender to send and receive? Or do we each need one? If we each have one, could we pick up the IT centre network? Or will it be limited by how far their antennae can send?

I thint that you’d just need to be able to communicate back to the extender so I’d imagine you’d need some sort of external antenna for your individual machines…

there are extenders and repeaters

if you need more range than an extender go for repeaters

then you can have more than one

heres one

ebay wifi repeater

dont know if that the best brand though

go for a good brand wifi repeater

you can also get extenders with an external antenna connection

or repeaters with an external antenna connection

these can be omni directional antennas have a2 to 12 dbi gain while directional antennas can have up to 18dbi + gain

Cheers,

We were looking at 3 x extenders with external antennae installed outside our room. Then one person gets the router and the rest just connect to the network. Sounds like that is the best bet for now. Anyone know if we would be able to run the wireless network which the internet runs over through it? IE wifi in and wifi out?
