…everyone’s talking about. It does seem odd. There’s what looks like a dark circular patch on the ground in the original view, and then that doughnut rock appears above it in the next frame:

It’s apparently unusually high in magnesium & sulphur. It presumably fell off the rover’s wheel, and is surely just a coincidence that it appeared above the circular patch, but it does add to the sense of mystery…

This was in the news last week, they think it was a rock flipped out by a wheel and they think there may be some science in looking at a side that has not been baked under a martian sky.

Of course there are going to be rocks thrown everywhere if the NASA bods keep doing doughnuts with their rover rather than proper science…

That doughnut was left on top of the rover by one of the NASA technicians, the martian wind finally blew it off, and its now on Mars where no one can eat it.
