Thankyou! I have emailed the link to my sister , where Mum is for a few days so they can check in for updates.:)

Oh, the plants are growing at Tweed Heads, on the East coast NSW/QLD border – I should have said with the first post.

Queens Tears usually has smaller flowers but it may be one of her hybrids.

I thought that too at first, but on closer inspection I decided it’s just the camera angle of that shot, and the bracts are overlapping rather than fully open.

The camera angle could well have been a bit odd! The flowering stalks came out of opposite sides and I had Mum hold up a compost bin lid behind it for a plain background – the depth of field control is something that I miss in the compact digital after so many years with SLR (film) camera!
