Subject: Character Mapping

I am looking for a program/app/thing that will assist with character mapping (for writing stuff).

I’ve got ywriter on the big computer and that’s pretty good, but I was then thinking of something that was webbased so that i could access it from my laptop as well. (The computer is windows and the laptop is a mac).

Any ideas/assistance is greatly appreciated.

Probably the best I’ve used for this is scrivener but, like ywriter, it’s a program for computers. It’s $US40, too.

I don’t know of a web-based one, which makes my comment a bit pointless, doesn’t it? You could set up a virtual machine on Amazon but that just adds to the cost.

Thanks Wocky,

I did have a look at that one (and wasn’t impressed with the price but never mind) – I have found a few more such as Storyboard, but again, that’s for PC (and not Mac)

I am still looking about, and who knows, might find something nice. :)

Love love LOVE Scrivener! Use it for everything. Best writing software I’ve ever used.

It comes with a range of templates for any style of writing- essay, thesis, novel, short story, script… You can stick all your research into the “corkboard” for easy access while you’re writing (very handy for essays and when your browswer crashes or your computer decides to update). Also has notes and memos to yourself on the corkboard. Has separate sections for scenes and characters so you can keep everything together. Can keep notes on each chapter/scene for reference later, or stick guideline notes to work into the story later. Easy export, easy file conversion, easy collation into a workable manuscript, plus full tutorials and videos and tech support and anything else you could possibly want.

I used to use ywriter, it was fkn useless.

I use “wookiewriter”, it has an amazing number of templates and suggestions for the budding writer.

Yes. I had the free trial during NaNoWriMo and got a 45% discount at the end of it- at the time it worked out to be about $20AUD as the dollar was quite high against the USD and I could use the student code as well. It’s been well worth it for me, I use it for everything.

PS, I’m pretty sure once you pay for one copy (either Windows or Mac), you can get both versions.
