Subject: Telstra 4G Wifi Hotspots

I have been looking at Telstra’s offerings and they provide no description at all of these devices.

Someone told me about them today.

I was thinking about mounting one up on a pole where it can see the Telstra tower (about 16m up should do it) and using it to provide me with internet access via various devices, like a smartphone, an iPad and a laptop. Perhaps even my GoPro. I would either run it via solar and battery or run 240 volts up to it and use a charger.

Does anyone have one of these units? Is it as simple as what I am describing?

look for a 4G modem with an external antenna output, then you can use an external antenna

see ebay for 4g antenna

that will give you an idea but look around elsewhere for good deals

You’ll be needing a helical strake.
