I have always wondered what do billionaires spend their money on.

Lets start with a mansion 50 mil
A private jet with staff on call 30 mil
A good boat with staff on call 30 mil
Staff everywhere 10 mil
Racehorses 10 mil
Gambling 10 mil
So now I am struggling to get past 140 mil.

No matter how much I try to spend my wealth I can’t except to invest and try to make more.

What point is there to having too much?

I think that most billionaires don’t actually have their wealth in the form of large bags of cash.
Except of course Scrooge McDuck.

I’d start spending on things which interest me.

I’d buy every privatised railway in the country and rebuild it into a national network, with the key lines double-gauged, and introduce some hi-tech computerised road-railer hiring system.

Then I’d investigate mass production of ships through robotic and automated construction.

As a hobby I’d build a modern-day Jacques Cousteau type ocean science program.

By Christmas next, I’d file for bankruptcy.

to be totally scalable and handle any different design so that the factory does not have to be re tooled every time so that we can keep the support industry going

build solar plants and other renewable’s in China, India and other third world countries so that they don’t choke themselves to death and the smog doesn’t move over to other countries

This might be beyond the scope of your average billionaire. And there is a lot more to making a car than the robotic assembly. The Australian automotive industry had an overall R&D spend of $693 million in 2011 -2012.

If you owned a decent sized large ocean cruiser, you’d get about 8,0000 miles on a tank, mans a refill would be around $100,000
Salary for staff on that alone would be over a million a year.

Easy to spend a bit of money…

Well, there’s always:

Or:

Oprah didn’t pay all of it..

When Oprah Winfrey gave away 276 cars last week to the audience of her show, images of people laughing, jumping, crying — some hysterically — filled the airwaves and the give-away became stuff of legend. Late night talk show hosts and newspaper columnists are still talking about it.

But now some of those eager prize-winners have a choice: Fork over $7,000 or give up the car.

According to a spokeswomen for Harpo Productions Inc., Oprah’s company, the recipients must pay a tax on the winnings, just like any prize.

For a brand new Pontiac G-Six, the model given away on the show, the sticker price is $28,500. The $28,500 would need to be claimed as income so, depending on the individuals tax bracket, the tax could be as high as $7,000. And that was after Pontiac agreed to pay most of the local charges, including state sales tax and licensing fees.

The Harpo Spokeswomen said winners had three choices. They could keep the car and pay the tax, sell the car and pay the tax with the profits or forfeit the car.

Even Gina, apparently.

But I can’t get too excited about people who arrange their affairs so they pay maybe 10% of the tax they should, then give away 10% of the saving.

There are one or two who give away a sizeable proportion of their wealth though.

No matter how much I try to spend my wealth I can’t except to invest and try to make more.

What point is there to having too much?

For the most part most billionaires have the large majority of their money tied up in investments.

See, I prefer ‘route’, by which I mean ‘the way’. I mean to imply that money takes people in the direction of evil, rather than being the wellspring from which all evil comes (which implies that money has no beneficial, or non-evil, purpose – which of course it does).

Poachers do this because of the opportunity to earn some money. Not much opportunity otherwise. For instance, more than two thirds of Tanzania’s population lives for under $1.25 income per day, price parity. That’s about 32 million people in one country who live on an income that is so low it is completely inconceivable to me, and probably you too.

Machine gunning poor people solves no problems. Education and well paid work might.

a handful of human lives for the existence of an entire species – its a small price to pay

Burn it.

While it will never make up for the obvious over pricing of the product sold…

But it will stop the flow on effect of twice the damage by those who benefit from the spend lust.

Of course if they spend their wealth it would be four fold the damage,
