…suddenly my pooter is completely stuffed. When I try to open anything in my libraries I’m told it’s “no longer working”. E.g., opening Documents I’m told: “Documents.library-ms” is no longer working.” WTF has happened & how do I fix it?

You’ve tried turning it off and on again?

Hmm, could just be minor glitch. Found this online and it had better work…..

>Oddly enough, it seems to fix this problem you need to delete the misbehaving library first. Deleting a library does not delete the content of the folder. To fix this problem, open Windows Explorer, right-click on the corresponding library and choose Delete. Click Yes when asked for confirmation.

Then, in the navigation pane of Windows Explorer, right-click on Libraries and click Restore default libraries. This recreates the library that you just deleted. This option will only restore the default libraries that came with Windows 7.<

Have you tried giving it a stern talking too and a quick, sharp slap.

I find that always helps.

Then again, I’ve been highly trained in these sorts of things, and I’m not sure that amateurs should be attempting them.

Have you tried turning it off, then removing all cables, then reconnecting them. Helped with some of my problems.

I’m pouring a stiff drink. I’d offer you one too but you shouldn’t drink on the valium.

Bit like the good old days of gaming when everything you installed was a PITA, allocating memory, making loading disks, wondering where all the sound has suddenly gone. Suddenly your mornings purchase and hoping to be happily gaming by lunch sometimes meant into the evening copying drivers.

I had been wondering why everyone was complaining about 8 until today. Admittedly I haven’t explored too far. But the thing started glitching while I was writing a letter. It would stop. Seemed to be trying to do something. Then it would be fine again. Tried the turn off, turn on thing. Tried turn off, go see a patient, come back, turn on. Still faffing around. For some reason I decided to just try restart instead of turn off. That settled it down. I haven’t set a background picture on my desktop, so it cycles through three of theirs. I think it was trying to change the picture and getting stuck.

I have no idea why a Restart worked when a turn off, turn on didn’t.

I’m about to install Thief now (installed Cubase Artist 7 earlier, but haven’t fully activated it yet – I’ll attend to that tomorrow.)

Thief came with 3 DVDs plus stuff to be downloaded from Steam….

What a terrible paragraph. Lose a suddenly and copying drivers into the evening and other awkward constructions.

Not sure what that means. Should I be annoyed?

just fleeting comic imaginings of you giving self electroconvulsive therapy, don’t mind me, attempted humour on my part.

Happens all the time here, guessing acknowledgement back wasn’t hurried.

Must admit electricity is not my thing, unplugging things is largely the extent of my knowledge, which surprisingly sometimes works. However I have progressed mechanically and no longer kick car tyres to judge their condition.

Bubblecar, I’d be checking the integrity of the hard drive if it were my PC. Run a full scandisk and check for bad sectors overnight.

I’d be backing up important stuff now; before the scandisk.

Cheers,
