Still only 16.3ºC here.
Was down to 12 overnight
A nice change to the summer weather, that’s for sure…
Supposed to hold steady on 32 – 33C for the next few days, then 36 on Friday…hardly notice it now…

Around here, the day when it warms up, stays hot. It was 36 here after dark.
We woke to a magnificent 8 degrees this morning. I love it under 15!
Going to peak at 37C this coming Monday, so they say…
Getting hot, I can feel the heat coming off the ground…

Got 1mm here last night. Supposed to get some decent rain this week but I won’t hold my breath.
32mm and still raining :)
Jolly good!
Cloudy here, the rain is very patchy, some properties getting lots and neighbours receiving no rain at all…
has been steady through the night until this afternoon but stopped for now. 41mm.

ours came in dense but in bands. My place got 31 mm., the official BOM reading was 23.5 mm
Got to be rain coming soon, the worms have been “sliming” all over their lid, and my feet hurt something shocking…if the kookaburras turn up I know rain will be a cert…maybe we will have a wet winter?
Raining :)
In for a wet week according to the forecast :)
Yep, rain rain and more rain. I emptied the small 1000 lt tank and let it flush and in a day it’s full again. The garden is loving it, but the chooks aren’t. They have dry parts shelter and parts of the yard.
Hah! Rain! You call this rain?! Nothing yesterday. And only 6mm for the month so far….

:)
Apparently TC Ita is a very big system…which stands to reason as the human Ita we’re all familiar with, had widespread influence (of the nice kind) in her time…

52mm. The weather man says it will stick to the northern parts of the state, sorry Buffy.
Might pick up some big bags of ice and lay in some cans of food that don’t need re-heating, altho’ I suppose I could start a campfire in the backyard if everything ends up very very wet…that’s if the power goes off. Otherwise I’m OK for a week, food wise.

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 10
Issued at 7:37 pm EST on Thursday 10 April 2014
A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal areas from Lockhart River to
Innisfail, and extending inland to areas including Kalinga, Laura, Palmerville,
Mareeba and Chillagoe.
A Cyclone WATCH is current for coastal areas from Innisfail to Cardwell, and
extending to adjacent inland areas.
At 7:00 pm EST Severe Tropical Cyclone Ita, Category 5, was estimated to be
345 kilometres north northeast of Cooktown and
285 kilometres northeast of Cape Melville, and
moving west southwest at 15 kilometres per hour.
SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE ITA, CATEGORY 5, is expected to move in a general
southwest direction towards the far north Queensland coast tonight and into
Friday, while possibly intensifying further.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Ita poses a significant threat to communities along the
far north Queensland coast and at this stage it is expected to approach the
coast between Cape Melville and Cape Tribulation and make landfall late on
Friday as a SEVERE CATEGORY 5 TROPICAL CYCLONE with VERY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS near
the core and GALES extending some distance from the landfall location.
DESTRUCTIVE WINDS currently extend 80 kilometres out from the centre and may
develop between Cape Sidmouth and Cooktown from as early as Friday morning
before extending inland to Laura and further south to Cape Tribulation and
possibly Port Douglas later in the day.
GALES extend 190 kilometres out from the centre and may develop between
Lockhart RIver and Cape Tribulation from as early as late tonight before
extending further south to Innisfail and inland to Kalinga, Palmerville, Laura,
and Chillagoe later in the day as the system moves closer to the coast and over
land.
Coastal residents between Cape Melville and Cape Tribulation are specifically
warned of the dangerous storm tide as the cyclone crosses the coast late
Friday. The sea is likely to rise steadily up to a level which will be
significantly above the normal tide, with damaging waves, strong currents and
flooding of low-lying areas extending some way inland. People living in areas
likely to be affected by this flooding should take measures to protect their
property as much as possible and be prepared to follow instructions regarding
evacuation of the area if advised to do so by the authorities.
Very heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is expected to develop about
parts of the Peninsula and North Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts
tonight and persist into the weekend.

Good point, maybe I should move it under the house…

She certainly is! That’s stunning…
We have had some mild precipitation overnight. I haven’t checked the gauge. But it has wet the ground at least.
74mm all up :)
Mr buffy tipped out 25mm from the last three days. I’m still to be convinced that is really ‘rain’. Although I haven’t had to water the garden, so I should be grateful.
Trying to rain here…we are getting the scrag end of CT Ita as she moves down…
22C here today which is why it’s so cool…
Your are just asking for an argument, aren’t you! It was 10 degrees here at sunup and our maximum was about 21, I think. I have been wearing a t-shirt all day, no thought of even needing anything more.
:)
I put a cotton jumper on when I first got up…it’s been pleasant tho’…
Still only 7.3°C here. The heater has come on for the first time this year.

I have been following ex-TC Ita on this site, she went to the north of North New Zealand, slid down the north face of the two islands, and is now hugging the southern tip of the south island. What a stayer! Looks like she’ll join all the powerful breezes swirling around the Antarctic, possibly today…
There were some kookaburras on the clothes line the other day, but the wind is blowing from the south east…when my feet start to hurt and the kookaburra numbers increase, there will be a good chance of rain…the ants are back, munching on crumbs left in a cup that had milk with shortbread dunked in it…
11C here at the moment, I see where at 06:30 it got down to 3C where the weather station is, so I would have been close…dug out my slippers, my only pair of track suit duds, and my feather quilt. Nefertiti was very pleased to see the latter as she couldn’t curl up tight enough the morning before…hopefully a cool day like yesterday so I can get more outside work done…
Got down to 0.2C at 06:30, back up to 5C at 07:00 which was when I felt it was safe to emerge from under my feather quilt. Supposedly 17C now but “apparent” 14C which would be spot on, I reckon…
Correction: supposedly 19C now…
We were quite warm this morning with 8 degrees. And drizzle. I went walking in the drizzle, but got rather heated. I haven’t needed to put a jumper back on yet. Although I have been inside, doing some sewing. I have dedicated today to being inside, which is rather unusual for me when I am not working.
Hot down here in the most western southern corner of PNG. I can almost see Australia (or Saibai Island) from here. It feels odd being here seeing as I have previously flown to Saibai from the Australia side of things and looked over in this direction at the massively flat Western Province. A new perspective on Daru. The Papuans here are very much more Cape York looking than the rest and their skin colour and overall ruddiness suggests it is sunnier and hotter than elsewhere on average. The standard of general health is at first impression, poor. The hospital here (if it is functioning) seems inadequate yet the numerous churches are in outstanding fettle. Perhaps prayer is indeed the last refuge for these raskols? The locals stare first and then smile after with an intensity and wariness that out-plays the rest of PNG and the ever present evil nut is of course, everywhere.
The coconut internet speed is truly the slowest possible…

Great to see your storytelling again…. do the churches take up the slack when the hospital is unable to function? It’s my opinion that those peoples which are more reliant on self-sufficiency than money are possibly more aware of the effects of the elements (fire, earth water and air) and therefore more likely to attempt to appease / curry favour with these elements by worship in some form…
Is the coconut internet the only speed available outside of POM? What about telephones, landline or wireless?
Struggled to make 23C today…

The temperature is set on ‘cold’ all the time lol. I’m struggling to make it onto the internet!
We woke to grey skies in Bourke Street (Melbourne) this morning. Overcast all the way home. Still haven’t put a jumper on today though. I got into ‘trouble’ last night from other members of the group when I wore a sleeveless dress to the theatre and took my jacket off when I arrived. I was right. A small theatre (The Comedy) full of people and a full on dancing show (The Rocky Horror Show) soon warmed the place up.
Since getting home I have moved several barrowloads of redgum firewood and stacked it and done all those little bitsy jobs that you feel good when they are done.
I will be working for the next two days and then back down to Melbourne on Friday night for a day of lectures – refresher courses – on Saturday. Glaucoma in the morning and surgical complications of retinal and cataract surgery in the afternoon. After which I will be rewarded by dinner in Chinatown for staying awake right through!
And it’s 2 degrees this morning. I have even put a cardie on. Off to work shortly.
Well, there was some frost in the low country on the way to work. Now sunny and 14 degrees. This would be an excellent day for cutting grass and gardening.
I have washed and packed away the mosquito nets. Really need another couple of cotton ones, double bed size.
The frangipani is losing it’s leaves, en masse Am thinking about planting out the cutting I nicked from a neighbour’s tree (not that they’d notice). It’s kind of a “fruit salad” colour flower, and the scent is divine…This will balance the aspect of the street frontage of this house…
