The Long Now Foundation was established in 01996* to develop the Clock and Library projects, as well as to become the seed of a very long-term cultural institution. The Long Now Foundation hopes to provide a counterpoint to today’s accelerating culture and help make long-term thinking more common. Even I’m noticing this in myself.

I used to be a person who thought long term – voyages to other stars, coping with when mineral resource supplies run low, working towards a utopian society, human evolution a million years from now, the fate of the solar system and the universe.

Now I have trouble holding my attention on things for more than a few minutes.

Civilization is revving itself into a pathologically short attention span.
