Let the child touch the ground first, before you grab them.

Use cotton, not synthetic clothing on the child.

Replace the plastic slide with a metal one. Glue cutouts from car tyres on the soles of her shoes.

try one of those auto earth straps fitted to the slide and touching the ground. MV has the right idea as well.

Earthing the slide sounds fine but the legs are buried.

and your feet are on the ground so presumably at the same potential as the slide. so you need to earth the kids.

Extend the length of the slide so the children come to a stop and get off by themselves?

Simply stop being protective and allow them to slide all the way off and have fun.

No. Simply hand out sandals with car tyre rubber soles to the child carers.

My trick for avoiding static shocks is to take them on the back of the hand instead of the fingers. Where I used to work there was one particular door that used to zap people constantly, perhaps it was the carpet. I got in the habit of touching it with the back of my hand first before grabbing the handle with my fingers. Doesn’t hurt a bit with the back of the hand.

Strictly speaking it doesn’t avoid shocks, it avoids getting shock to the fingers which might hurt.

But it is the kids who are picking up the static charge.

Won’t someone think about the children?

Install a carbon fibre net across the bottom?
Let the grass grow longer under and around the slide and water it before playtime?
Ban children?
Ban carers?

Good question robadob…Sorry I couldn’t help :-)

Apply hair conditioner to the surface of the slide?

There are also anti-static wet wipes and sprays.

Days with high humidity are less likely to have static problems.

First, ring the slide manufacturer to see if they have a solution.

Failing that, get an anti-static coating:

An antistatic agent is a compound used for treatment of materials or their surfaces in order to reduce or eliminate buildup of static electricity generally caused by the triboelectric effect. Its role is to make the surface or the material itself slightly conductive, either by being conductive itself, or by absorbing moisture from the air, so some humectants can be used. The molecules of an antistatic agent often have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic areas, similar to those of a surfactant; the hydrophobic side interacts with the surface of the material, while the hydrophilic side interacts with the air moisture and binds the water molecules.
