A few years ago, according to the media, cane toads were about to invade the southern states and we should have had them hopping all over us by now.
Has their invasion been stopped, or has the media just lost interest ?

they certainly moved westwards.. don’t know about south.. they’re all over the NT and I believe northern WA now.

They’re headed past me well down the mid north coast.. hugging the coastal strip.
Also evolved longer legs.
Expect much yelling when they reach Hornsby.
:)
There have been cane toads found as far south as Melbourne, but they got there in shipping containers from the northern states and were destroyed upon discovery to prevent spreading.
heaps in wa
south of kunnanarra in there millions
only one way to stop them
need to bred in a genetic fault
pretty much gone beyond stopping them now… I reckon
I did read about changing genes so they only had female babies but I don’t know how far they got with that.

surely it would be better to produce only males?

They’d probably want gay marriage
I did find this though. http://www.csiro.au/Outcomes/Safeguarding-Australia/Cane-Toad-Research.aspx
Opinion remains divided over the ideal size stick to use on them..
A 3 or a 5 iron.

Why let them inside?
I think I read somewhere that they are catching some local disease & their spread is being slowed due to falling numbers.
A 5 iron slows them considerably too although mz Tamb prefers a 4 wood.

Is that used to stop compulsive spherical angle measuring syndrome?

Plus the crows are working out how to eat them.

Robots
Is it really that hard…
What is the weakest spot of their life cycle?
What in their natural habit restricts their dominance?
What are the dangers of introducing another foreign species?
Something must eat their eggs and fry…
They may still be poisonous but small.
And as we all know, everything is poisonous in the correct amount…
Robots
Robots that look like cane toads that then hunt other cane toads down with lasers fitted into their eyes
freind showed me video from turkey creek
must have been 500 to 1000 on his front lawrn

Too dangerous. What if they become self aware and decide we are next in line for some culling?

Need some sort of automatic suicide programming built in. If they ever become self-aware they are programmed to self-destruct.

find it hard to believe that with all the genetic break through we had that if we put resorses in to it that we could not develop a genetic time bomb to wipe them out

I would say the same thing about rabbits
Calicivirus hasn’t worked where I live, the blighters are all over the place.

If only they’d waited until the official release?

Calicivirus was released onto the mainland before testing was completed. Perhaps if someone hadn’t jumped the gun then maybe the eventually released virus could have worked better.
