Best I can find to do the business, price is right.
Dell want a couple of grand more for similar specs.
Is Asus alright, do they have a good rep?

I think Dell are also “alright” these days.

Which is the better alright, I don’t know.

Mz Tamb has had an Asus laptop for years & its only problem is that now the battery isn’t holding its charge as well as when it was new.

I got a new Dell just under 3 years ago. The battery totally died a few months ago, and the trim around the edges is coming off.

Also I note that “Moore’s Law” seems to have morphed into “Much the same’s” Law”.

I’ve been running a stable of five Asus lappies for about as many years and never had any problems.

Have you been breeding them?

No. I buy them from a Lappy farm.

I was originally going to say ‘fleet’ but five doesn’t seem enough to call it a fleet.

Five laps?

He must have 12 legs.

He must be a blue nosed spider monkey!

(Don’t believe that any monkey has 12 legs? Look it up on the internet).

I bought a new ASUS laptop at the start of this year to replace my 4½ year old ASUS.  Stuck with them because I’ve had no problem with it (apart from the battery losing its ability to hold much charge in the last few months).  Had a HP before that — it was ok, but ASUS seem to use more standard components and OS compared to what I’m aware of with HP and Dell (my info (prejudices?) may be out of date these days).

I went through their website rather than JB, as I could customise the model I was after.  They delivered within a few days, and I’m pretty impressed with the new one (well, 4th gen i7 with 16GB RAM was never going to disappoint).

I’d recommend them again.

As a side note, if you’re bundling Office 2013, you’ll do better pricewise just buying it online from MS.

I have just moved to an Asus X202 with a core i3 and 4 gm ram. In the previous 13 years I had used top of the range IBM / Lenovo units. Now I am paying the bills for my IT stuff, I have not only found the Asus cheap (under $500) but effective and stylish. I don’t think I’d go back to a Lenovo even if the money was again no option.

I prefer the keyboard of the Asus and like the polished metal cases. But best of all I like the the price, weight savings and the portability, and the distinct lack of bloatware. I don’t actually recall removing any Asus software before my initial backup.

Go Asus, you could do worse.

Cheers,
