Rising road toll: Cyclists accuse police of going soft on dangerous drivers
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-15/cyclists-accuse-police-of-going-soft-on-dangerous-drivers/5392438

A Brisbane cyclist seriously injured in a collision with a Jeep last year says he feels vindicated after Queensland Police admitted fabricating a statement they said he gave to officers.

Craig Cowled recorded disturbing vision of the July 2013 crash on a helmet-mounted GoPro camera.

It records how he was left lying helpless on the ground with a broken hip after being sideswiped by the vehicle.

When he left hospital after seven hours of surgery to have his broken hip bolted back together, he sought out police to give them his helmet-camera vision and provide a statement.

He was told officers had taken a statement at the scene even though he had not spoken with police.

The driver who collided with Mr Cowled was docked two demerit points, a penalty Mr Cowled feels is manifestly inadequate.

edit: remember me telling you about cycling being a good way of winding up dead?

if you are thinking of going on the road think twice, the person that knocks you over will only get a fine and perhaps a few months licence suspension if they kill you.

I’d wager you they never serve that sentence AND they will be back on the road in no time at all – they’ll always give them their licence back. drunk drivers are routinely allowed back on the road – its a catch and release operation, if you get caught three times drink driving you should lose your licence permanently the fourth time caught driving should see a conviction and a gaol sentence – no parole and a fine.

the other option if they are caught drink driving is that the car get confiscated by the state and sold at auction elsewhere so they can’t drive.

the possessed fellow I knew years ago had lost his licence and regularly drove around of a night avoiding the police

go for a cycle and prove me wrong

I gave up cycling here years ago – I’d have people trying to knock me over , shouting at me – very strange

in fact I would recommend if you want to know the milk of human kindness go for a cycle on a road

watched that footage, bit distressing

…. appears to be failures to establish safe (braking and clearance) distances as required, I assume the authorities are slow about this because it suits to purposefully distort the implications of high density traffic and patterns of behaviour associated with that, in the context of what makes for that to do with with ‘Modern High-Speed Transport’.

I knew one person that used to cycle around for fitness, he was knocked over by some chinese bloke on a roundabout in Maroubra – poor sap , he thought he’d get some compensation for it.

the real problem is the driving test

in Britain the bloke giving you the practical exam would give you the “theory” exam afterwards. he pull out a thick book of road signs

whats this?……..

a few seconds would then go by

if you couldn’t tell him what the sign meant in a few seconds … FAIL

no sitting for hours on the computer conferring with your mate discussing it was OK tto drive on a zebra crossing whilst someone was on it.

I can take you through some examples of the unworded aspects of driving behaviours, if you want, starting with, or starting from just how commonly safe distances are breached.

Maybe tomorrow.

According to a report in The Cairns Post in May, following the tragic death of cyclist Tanya Roneberg, a local emergency-room doctor said at least one cyclist a week was seriously injured in a crash involving a vehicle in Cairns.

now if you think about it you could be looking at maybe ten serious incidents between cyclists and vehicles a day minimum across the country

There’s also an ice factory at Mareeba.
